Surprise! Garmin MapUpdater v 3.3.4

Thats good news, I prefer Map Updater to Express.

I've never has an issue with MapUpdater and was once told by tech support that for older platforms such aas
Windows XP it is the preferred program to use.

I will be interested to see if they fixed the incorrect handling of the GMAPDEM.IMG file on the 35xx nuvi's.

Now that is a surprise!

I was surprised to see 3.3.4 was 4,122KB where as 3.3.3 is 4,594kb.

Great news......now I will not have to install GE for the next release (assuming the new release works). I would save the older version until it is fully checked out by the learned members of the POI-Factory. Noticed that on my system it went from 2594 kb to 4595kb and in properties its version is still 3.0.0.0

...or bug removal.

The 3.0.0.0 is the version that shows up in properties in both 3.3.3 and 3.3.4.

The properties I'm showing for 3.3.3 indicate 4595kb.
3.3.4 shows 4122kb. Are you sure you checked the new downloaded 3.3.4 file for properties?

Also you said it went from 2564 to 4595, that doesn't sound right to me. Are you positive you've been using 3.3.3 up until now?

If you use BaseCamp, MapUpdater is still supplied with BaseCamp for updating maps from within BaseCamp.

I checked my Win 7 computer,,

4594 KB for 3.3.3
4595 KB for 3.3.4

Same files sizes as me after the update.

My apologies for the INCORRECT file size for 3.3.4 as 4122KB, it is in fact as you state 4595KB.

I just downloaded it again and it now displays 4595.
I never tried the first download, I just saved it on my PC since my maps are up to date.. I will delete the corrupt one and replace with the new download. I don't know what happened on my first download.

I feel it's much better to compare file sizes in bytes and NOT kilobytes. It's simply more accurate.

I just tested MapUpdater 3.3.4 using a clone of my 3597LMTHD, updating the map from CN NA 2015.20 to 2015.30. Unfortunately, the incorrect handling of the GMAPDEM.IMG file on 3xxx nuvi models is not fixed.

Thanks for the test. We can rule out that fix from the new 3.3.4.

That may be fixable from the server side of the request.

Regardless, it's a good heads-up to keep the file backed up.

Mac version still at 4.5.1 but when I start the application it shows a progress bar that says "Downloading software updates for Garmin Map Update" but it never seems to update.

FWIW, I had problems with MapUpdater the last time I used it to install a new map update. This was three updates ago and made me finally switch to Garmin Express. For me with my old laptop it actually works better (GE) and the last two updates have completed with no glitches or pop-ups except the initial one warning me I'm using an end-of-life os.

Perhaps. But since Garmin fixed this same error in Garmin Express 2 or 3 versions ago, my guess is that it is a continuing software error in MapUpdater, and they have little motive to fix it. It will be interesting to see what happens with 2015.40.

Thank you for the information. I use both GE and mapupdater depending on if I'm updating both the gps and Basecamp (GE) or just Basecamp (mapupdater).

I agree, the incorrect handling of the GMAPDEM.IMG file renaming on my 3790LMT is a problem I have run into olus the files related to BaseCamp being erased and having to reinstall that software to get it going again.

I had the problem, as others, with an error report about the computer maps not installing. I assumed the MapUpdater would be going away so I installed GE. Used it when first out and had problems. Well I installed it and so far it works great.

Even though MapUpdater has been updated I think I will use GE as long as it works ok. """You never know with me""" Said I would never use GE again... I always change my mine.
