POI file creation help

Hi Guys, I have not worked on POI files for many years. Now I can not figure out how to create one. I tried Google Earth and created kml files but when I bring kml file in POI Editor, it is not working. Am I missing a step? How can I import KML files properly in POI Editor or any other editor? I will appreciate your help.. I know there should be tons of help here but could not find the right one.

One way

While I do not know exactly what you are trying to create and from what data, this FAQ might be a good starting point.

When I attempt to turn a .kml file into a workable gpx file I run the kml through a program called ITN Converter. This little program will convert .kml files into all kinds of different formats including .csv and .gpx. Both load OK into EPE, and the .gpx file into Basecamp and Mapsource.

You can get a copy of ITN Converter from:

Software Current?

You say you have not created a POI file in several years. Be aware that there have been changes made to EPE and Google Earth within the last year or so. Make sure you have the current EPE version, 5.35 or beta 5.91. (Not for Mac)

Here is a link to turboccc’s website which includes a zip file of versions that are not working: http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor#Extra_POI_Ed...

Google Earth was last updated on 10/7/2013 to version 7.1.2.2041.

You may already be aware of this but you can import .kml files directly into Basecamp. The file can then be saved as a .gdb , .gpx, .csv, .tcx or .txt file.

BTW, thanks t923347 for the link to ITN Converter. It looks like a useful piece of software.

Thanks for your advice.
