Garmin Map Info

I bought two Garmin c340 units within the last two weeks. One has City Navigator North America NT 2008. The other has City Navigator North America NT V8. What is the difference between the two and which is newer? It seems the 2008 has a few more locations established in it's database compared to the V8 (i.e. restaurants). Interestingly enough, each will consistently produce a different route from home to work when sitting side by side with duplicate settings. I tend to prefer the 2008 over the V8.

.

2008 is the newest version that has just been shipping in the last few weeks.

v8 is the version that was released in last year.

Version 8 NT vs ver 8

I checked into this and my understanding is that the data is the same only the format is different.

They are both NT

Both versions v8 and v2008 are NT (the same format). As MM said, v8 is the current version (2006-2007) and v2008 is the release from one year later (just coming out now. V2008 has newer maps and locations.

Bad Name

Why wouldn't they call it version 2007 if the maps are current in 2007? That's just confusing.

Yes, the data is exactly the same.

The NT version is compressed so that it takes up less space. Also, you need the NT version in order to use XM NavTraffic.

Also, you would need to be sure that your unit is compatible with the NT version.
