how to gain space on 3597LT

We've just come back (to Oz) from 2 months in Canada & 3 weeks in UK, with our new 3597(Indispensable). I bought a Nth America & UK Micro SD card. It was just a matter of swapping out the mSD card when required & un-ticked the Aussie maps. I would not load any other maps onto the Internal memory; this is where things are stored, Routes. Tracks, Way Points, POI's. I then use Garmin Basecamp (free download for PC; excellent for planning Routes) to transfer all the data from the Internal Memory to the Micro SD card. Once I;ve finished, I'll manually delete the data I have stored on the mSD from the Internal memory.
You could purchase an 8GB Micro SD card (comes with SD card adapter) & download the software to the mSD card in your PC. Hope this helps.

MicroSD

Make sure it's a MicroSD card. They are very reasonably priced.

SD Card Your Only Option

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure how much memory is on the Australian 3597,
the link below doesn't include it. If it's like a 3797 it's only 2GB.

Be aware even if you have the Europe map on an SD card you will lose several features. Whether you download the map, or purchase one already on an SD card the files needed for those features will not be present.

There will be no Junction Views.
Your "Voice Command" will not work for the Euro map.
I also doubt the Traffic feature will work since the Australian Traffic provider will not be recognized in Europe.

more storage -

can it be a larger SD card than 8gb - I have already bought the Europe on line - not by SD card and need to load direct to the 3597 with the SD card in the machine. Will this work? We thought to also load USA & Canada in future years and thought one SD card with all the maps would be easier. Could I use 32Gb and then be able to keep all the maps and updates on one card?

I'm using a Sandisk 16GB micro SD in my 1390T and 2495LMT and it seems to work fine. Not sure if it works on all GPS's though.

16GB Sufficient

Some Nuvi owners have reported a 32GB card works in their units. I have personally used a 16GB SD card on my 660 Nuvi, it's a very old unit and uses USB 1 which is quite slow and the Nuvi recognized it.
I would not risk trying a 32GB card unless you can use it for another device if it doesn't work, then replace it with a 16GB.

I think you will have no problem with a 16GB card and that's what I would suggest. Full Euro maps are over 3GB and full North America is about 2.17GB.
These two are the largest individual maps that I'm aware of. Combined, they are less than 5.5GB so there is still plenty of room on a 16GB card to add more if you like.

Be sure the new SD card is formatted to Fat32 so the Nuvi will recognize it. I also suggest you buy a Sandisk manufactured card, in my opinion they are the best, I've never had any issues with them.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the "official" Garmin position on SD & microSD card capacity is 8GB Maximum is support, but others may work. Here is a link to that page:
