As long as Webupdater and Mapupdater continue to work, I see no reason to switch. Just applying the rule: if it works don't fix it.

DOS 3.1 still works too. Oh I doubt you are using it because you upgraded years ago even though it wasn't broke.

Garmin began rolling out Garmin Express v3.2.16.0 for the PC today. If you would like to upgrade to the latest version, Check for Application Updates on the Settings page within the Express application. This version includes the following changes:

• Fix an issue with unnecessary UAC notices displaying after user specifies not to keep Garmin Express running in the background
• Provide a way for users to access Garmin Map Updater when they attach a personal navigation device that is not supported by Express

I find that second item quite interesting in that Garmin is officially acknowledging the existance and use of Garmin Map Updater for certain devices. It gives me some hope that Garmin will keep Map Updater compatible with future map updates. It will be interesting to see if they release a new version of Map Updater for the 2015.20 map.

Next Time

I'll wait a while and try it when it is time to install the next map update.

New Release

Garmin Express Version 3.2.16.0 installed. No problem.

Bad, Bad, Bad

Just an FYI to all ... its not all peaches and cream with this update.

With the 3.2.13.0 download GE stopped seeing any of the 6 GPSs I regularly connect to my laptop. Uninstalling and re-installing GE did not fix the problem. Re-installing the Plug-in did not help. Uninstalling and installing 3.2.16.0 has not fixed the problem. No time right now to figure out what the problem is but just thought I'd throw this problem out there so others are aware of it.

The laptop is running Win 7, 64 bit. I can see every GPS in all other programs, ie Explorer, MapSource, BaseCamp, MapUpdater, etc. One day maybe next week I'll have some time to figure it out.

BTW, BaseCamp updated my zumo 665 firmware from v3.00 to v3.10 today. I wasn't aware it would or even could do that.

Try Revo Uninstaller

This utility was mentioned here as a solution to a lot of Garmin Express problems. It might fix yours. I tried it, and then did a clean re-install of Garmin Expres and it fixed a lot of GE glitches and hiccups on my XP laptop.

I used the most aggressive option it offers and had no problems.

Try removing each of your GPS from GE, then reintroduce each one. Shut down GE and reboot Windows after removing the units.

DOS 3.1 still works too. Oh I doubt you are using it because you upgraded years ago even though it wasn't broke.

If an old DOS provided all the functionality I needed and a new version took away some of that functionality, I'd keep the old DOS. Garmin hardware and the old software supports waypoint categorization, basecamp does not. That's something I use.

Btw, I'm using Windows 8.1 because it offers more useful features for me than prior versions. I would not fault anyone else for wishing to stay with Windows 7 if it suits their needs.

3.2.16.0

This installed automatically. No problems, but I have never had any problems with GE.

Its working again

Thanks for the reminder Williston,

Revo Uninstaller did the trick. It brought up all kinds of leftover junk from previous versions that I deleted. Then did a fresh download and install.

I had previously tried removing the GPSs with no success. Revo Uninstaller did the trick.

Great News Bear007!

On my laptop, the finger was being pointed at XP as the source of the problems I was seeing with pop-up errors & messages, install failures, and misc. other gremlins. After using Revo to clean it out and off, my last map update using Garmin Express went from start to finish with no drama at all. The current version I have (latest) was installed fresh again after a Revo nuke. If Garmin comes out with a new version of GE before the Map Update arrives, I will do the same.

Update: I see in an entry above that GE v.17 is now available. I'll wait until the map arrives for download and if it's still the newest version, I'll do the Revo wipe and re-install.

u must install that and update via settings as of right now.

Update using GE

If you update by using GE, you will see v3.2.17.0 is available.

Hint: Click on the little "Gear" like icon in the upper right corner of GE.
