Deleted Nuvi Files

Hello
It's been a long time since I posted my last forum. I try to update Nuvi 200w to latest map version being 2014.40. Internal storage was filling up, so I grab 4GB SD card from my Android phone and format it to make it usable. However, I accidentally format my internal storage. Now all the system files are gone. Is there anyway to restore these files and folders back?

Deleted

I suggest to get a recovery program, install on your computer and then try to recover as much as possible.
Any recoverd files will NOT have the correct FIRST letter for a file or just have a symbol, so that means taking intelligent guesses to what the letter may be.

Once done see if you can gonnect the GPS to the computer and see if WEBUPDATER will recogmize it.
If it does reinstall everything from Garmin.

One more reason to ALWAYS have a current back-up of your Garmin stored on the computer harddrive !!!!!

BTW: 2014.4 is not the newest map!

I have tried to turn on the

I have tried to turn on the unit when files were deleted. It turned on and I connected to my computer again. It created Garmin folder itself and generated two folder. When I access my Garmin and went to dashboard and update many files as I can, it is going back to sort of normal stage. However I'm missing gmapprom.gma and gmapprom.unl. I have gmapprom.img backed up.

Reinstall

It sounds like you could reinstall the latest (2015.10) map update (with GarminMapUpdater or Garmin Express) which will reinstall your gmapprom files. Your 200W should also be given the option by the updater to install the map to the nuvi with a limited map or to a SD card for the largest map your device is entitled to be received. If installed to the nuvi, the City Navigator NA NT 2015.10 map files will be gmapprom, but if installed to the SD card, I think they will be gmapsupp or possibly gmapsup1 files.

Will they let me install

Will they let me install through Garmin even though I don't have lifetime subscription?

I'm confused

I'm confused. In your original message, you say you were trying to update your maps when you accidentally formatted the nuvi rather than a SD card. How were going to update the map if you didn't have a numaps lifetime subscription or a device with lifetime updates (a LM or LMT device)?

Hmm, in another thread last summer, you wrote that you got a City Navigator map update from some unremembered website:

As you wrote and as others replied in that thread, we have concern that you were trying to discuss the use of pirated maps and that's not done here.

It seems as though we have a bunch of elephants (more likely, members with good memories) in this forum. grin

I remember back in my Apple & Atari 8-bit computer days in the early 80's, there was a popular floppy disk manufacturer called Elephant Memory Systems who's tag line was "Never Forgets."

I may have a good memory (never heard of Elephant Memory, though) but in this case, Search is my crutch.

I saw the name of the poster, read what he did, and thought to myself that karma is a bitch.

Call Garmin

Someone should've suggested for the OP to call Garmin Support, explain exactly what he did and what happened, I'm sure he'll get the answer he's looking for or deserves. wink

Those Elephant floppies were very popular from the early 80's to late 80's, they were considered one of the most reliable brand, I've used tons of them back then.

They are still used today at the US nuclear control center:

Lesley Stahl: And they're using really, really, really old computers. I saw a floppy disc and not a floppy disc that size. It was gigantic.

Scary part about that is that I remember those floppies (8 inch). Used to use them in the stuff I worked on in the 80s (not military stuff). There may even be 1 or 2 of them hiding in my garage. smile.

@gattina11: Some more details please. Are you able to boot your 1350? What do you mean when you say you tried to restore everything but had no luck? Did you make a backup?

If you need files, I have a link culled from my 1300 that should be able to help. To make this abundantly clear to the OP, these files will not work on the 200W.

The files in the 1300 and 1350 should be identical.

The download should provide you with enough to get your device up and running. Detail maps naturally are not provided, but this should be sufficient to get you to a running condition. From there, run WebUpdater to restore missing information.
