Hi, I have euro maps on my Sd card and the NA on the nuvi drive. The nuvi drive has two large files gmapprom and gmapprom1 which i assume are according to the map info, na 2014.40and 2014.20. The problem is these don't get deleted when I try to instal newer maps. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm confused here of how you are showing both the NA 2014.20 and 2014.40 maps.
It is my understanding that on the Nuvi 370 the NA map is named gmapprom.img, and the Euro map is named gmapprom1.img.
You say you have the Euro map on the SD card. If so, it should be named gmapsupp.img.
When you have the SD card inserted does it show all three maps, the 2014.20, 2014.40 and the Euro map?
I'm assuming you had bought lifetime map updates since lifetime updates as far as I know were not offered on any 70 series.
Did you buy Lifetime Maps for Euro also and had it install to the SD card?
Another thing to consider is memory. The 370 should have 4GB (actually less) memory to accomodate both NA and Euro maps. With the ever increasing size of maps I can't see how both 2014.20 and 2014.40 fit on the Nuvi.
Normally when using Garmin to update maps it will delete the old map so I'm confused how the gmapprom1.img is either 2014.20 or 2014.40,
Lastly, I'm not sure if you realize your 370 has a limit on the size of map it can read. The largest map size it can read is 2GB. The 2015.10 map of full North America excedes that limit (about 2.17GB)).

give us the names and sizes of the .img files on your device and SD card.
identifying map files.
To me the easiest way for you to identify these map files is to rename one of them (to something like gmapprom.img.sav) so it won't be loaded by the nuvi, reboot and check Map Info to see what is missing. Then shutdown, restore the correct name, rename a different file and check Map Info again.
With this method you should quickly be able to tell whether any of the files can be deleted.

This got me thinking...did the nuvi 3xx/6xx series even support the additional gmapprom1.img file naming convention? I guess it must have with the North American / European units (nuvi 370/670) but then I don't have any record of the support here in this topic I started way back when...which began with the 7x0 series.

Could the 370/670 have used both US and EU mapsets combined into one single mapset (gmapprom.img)? If the OP has a 370 and it has both gmapprom.img & gmapprom1.img, I'll assume that it did indeed use & recognize both of these filenames.
That was a long time ago...

I'm also confused about the two maps. one is just over 1,700,000 kb, the newer one almost 2,000,000kb. The euro map on the SD is gmapsupp and I have no problem as long as it is under 2gb as you said and it shows only the euro map. I use mapupdater to load NA maps but it says not enough space for North America, In any case I downloaded Canada and US to my hard drive and now need to delete those two gmapprom to make room without having problems, thanks for your interest.

Of course, you can manually delete the map .img files if MapUpdater won't delete it/them for you. But you should probably archive these map files before doing anything else so you have something to fall back on in case something screwy happens. Better yet, backup the whole device if you haven't yet done so. There are no hidden files/folders on the 3xx/6xx series so it should just be a drag & drop, one shot deal.

I just deleted gmapprom.img
I just deleted gmapprom.img leaving gmapprom1.img.The nuvi now shows only the newer 2014.40 map in map info. Now I will load most of the newest NA maps from my computer and if all goes well, delete the gmapprom1. Just wondering what the newest file will show, maybe the regular gmapprom. Thanks for your interest.
