Garmin 1690 discontinued nuLink

Garmin (their providers) is discontinuing nuLink services on the 1690 which includes

Real-time traffic
Weather

White Pages
Wireless myGarmin™ services
Google search

Does anyone know if there is there a way to remove the above features (including Icons) from the device in order to free up the space and cluttered screens?

Thanks

Probably Not

Those would be features burned in to the Garmin OS running on the device. There would not be any "DLL" or similar component, assuming you could even identify the correct files, to delete. For example, I had a Garmin C550 as well as my current Nuvi 765T. They work with an RDS traffic receiver. My business partner had purchased a Nuvi 680 that came with the now defunct MSN Direct service. The receiver cables for MSN Direct and RDS were identical. When I plugged the MSN Direct cable into my devices, they started displaying MSN Direct data even though they were not MSN Direct models. The Garmin software has (and still has on the older devices) the code in the firmware to support those devices.

Now it might be possible that releases a firmware update that removes those services but I doubt they will waste their time.

I can't

I can't think of anyway to delete them as they would be part of the Nuvi's firmware which wouldn't be easily accessible to the user. On the other hand the icons are on the Tools page(s) which I wouldn't think is accessed to much other that for "Settings" which is the first item on the first screen.

NuLink discontinued

It was another flash in the pan, like MSN Direct was.

With so many great apps for cell phones now-a-days, it's hard to come up with something to compete.
