Space on my Garmin

I have a NUVI 2555 loaded with maps for North America and Benelux/France. Now I want to replace the Benelux/France maps with a new set for all of Europe but I am told that space available is insufficient. Is there a way to delete the ones I no longer need in order to make space for new map sets? Seems like it should be a "gimme" but it seems not to be the case, at least for me.

SD Card should do it

I believe your unit accepts micro SD cards. If so, invest in an 4 or 8gb card and load the maps to the card. The card is also handy to store a backup.

You can also delete any

You can also delete any older version of maps, by deleting the Gmapprom.img and/or gmapsupp.img in the Garmin folder of your GPS. Do not delete the base map gmapbmap.img or the time zone file gmaptz.img.

Plug the GPS into the computer using USB mode, and view the drive. The Garmin folder contains the map images and folders for POIs Images etc.

Before deleting files, it's recommended you make a backup of the GPS files so you can restore if necessary or you make a mistake.

SD Card

Moving all the large map files to the SD card is the best way to make room on the GPS unit. In the future, any additional maps should be put there too. Funny part, I didn't notice any delay in loading these maps.
