Nuvi 2797LMT black out screen

Good day all of you, I just get the Nuvi 2797LMT.
It works fine until I had registered and map updated the unit via Garmin Express. Now, the unit goes black screen after the Garmin's logo starting screen.

Per the user manual, I hold 10 sec the power button to reset the unit, but same result, the black screen still there.

Other technics to bring my 2797 back to life?
I appreciate any help from you

Tilley

First, have a strong battery

It may not be this, but let's start by giving the new nuvi a full charge (a few hours in a vehicle with the cigarette lighter cable or overnight with a USB cable from a computer or AC charger) to confirm that it's just not a lack of charge.

Did you give the nuvi a good charge before starting the map update? A new out-of-the-box nuvi may have a battery with a weak charge.

Call Garmin

I suggest calling Garmin tech support as they are good in helping you. tech support 1-800-800-1020

I plugged for charging nearly 24hrs BEFORE using it.The battery status icon is full green bars.
Thanks

reset

May not be able to do it but try reset.Did you get sat download message on map install? If no or not sure try re-install with Garmin Map Updater. http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

To perform a master reset on a nuvi 2407, 2408, 2507, 2508, 2707 or 2708 series devices, hold the device horizontally and follow the steps below:

Note: A master reset may erase all favorites1 and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites to your computer, you can find instructions to do so here.

Start with the device off and unplugged from power
To verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, touch and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device
Touch and hold the lower right hand corner of the display portion of the touchscreen
Power the device on
"System" will appear on the screen for approximately 30 seconds
Remove your finger when the screen displays Loading...
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts to set your locale and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

1Although the master reset will erase all saved favorites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device.

OK, then. That's good. A battery failure, especially mid-firmware update, could be a big problem.

If you connect the nuvi to a computer, will myGarmin, Garmin Express, or WebUpdater recognize that it's there? If so, you could check for software updates.

As suggested, if a hard reset can be done to your device, that could be a quick thing to check out.

As mentioned already, since this is a new device, a call to Garmin Customer Support may be a great idea. Have you computer on and nuvi connected and they may be able to do some work on your device while you're on the phone with them. Since you don't see a Loading Maps page, it could be that the map is corrupt, but since a repeat map install could take a couple of hours, my suggestion is to phone tech support.

Good luck.

This means I hold the gps with the screen facing to me horizontally?
Or I lay the gps horizontally down flat on the table?
Thanks

If this doesn't work Garmin Express most likely done a number on you. Some people it works well others not so good.I refuse to use it as long as Mapupdater is available.

okidooki, I'll try to hard reset and then re-load map with G.Updater.

Many thanks to all of you.

I'll be back here to let you know my garmin adventure smile

Returned it back to store, money refund

Here is my final step yesterday:

- return the unit to the store and get money back.

I brought the unit to an authorized garmin repair centre, the tech guy told me the unit must be returned to manufacture for software fix.

This gps is only 3 days old, so the best action is to return it to the store where I bought it.

Many thanks again for your help
