If we knew which unit you were trying to update and the original source for the files. If the file is the one provided by Garmin as part of their offerings, that particular file can only be updated by purchasing a subscription from Garmin. If you want to use the files found here at the POI-Factory, then click on the LEARN tab and follow the tutorials on POI Loading.

Updating POI Files as applies to a Garmin nuvi

Assuming you are doing this properly... You placed all of your desired custom POI files including the Red Light Camera files into a folder on your computer. You then used POI Loader (provided by Garmin) to install the contents of that folder onto your Garmin. In the process, POI Loader rolled all the files in your folder into a ball and copied it to a specific location within the Garmin or you may have selected to install them into an SD card. In either case, the new collection will replace the old collection in its entirety (Custom POI only - does not change factory supplied POI or Favorites you may have accumulated).

As time passes, if you add new files to your computer's folder as well as replacing existing files with updated versions, whenever your run POI Loader, you will have the latest versions as stored in your folder. One thing to watch for is that sometimes maintainers rename newer files different from the older version that will result in multiple copies in your folder and ultimately duplicate POIs on your Garmin. I try to make a habit of browsing my folder before running POI Loader to cull out any of the older versions that may be in there.
