This Girl Should Be Banned From Owning A Phone

This 21 year old hit a cyclist while texting and her comment was “I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bulls**t and my car is like pretty expensive and now I have to fix it,”

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-buzz/girl-driving-whil...

She used her phone 44 times during her trip and texted 7 people. She had the nerve to complain about the cyclist.

Somehow, I don't think the $4700 in fines and the nine month driving ban will deter her.

Texting

I hope the cyclist sues the a** off her.
Why is it the fault of somebody else when they get hit by the other person texting?

Wrong title

This Girl Should Be Banned From Owning A CAR
(lifetime ban or until she matures - I highly doubt 9 months is enough time to mature)

Thats not enough!

Owning or driving a car! And heavy jail time for felony endangerment!

Yeppers!

There needs to be tougher penalties!!

Limit Texting

I know several people who are adicted to texting. They can't go 2 minutes without checking their phone. One even lost her job because of it. These people need help. It is really becoming a problem.

Agreed

I agree. This girl should me looking at fine at least 3 times higher and a license revocation, not ban, for at least 10 years. After that, she can start the whole licensing process all over again. Oh and her car should be impounded and sold too.

Take Her Car

and make her ride the bike.

zap 'em all?

At what point do we just ban cell use in vehicles altogether? Is it worth inconveniencing the passengers in a vehicle to make sure something like this (or worse) doesn't happen again?

Texting at a Stop Light, etc.

Maybe texting at a Stop Light momentarily is different from texting as the vehicle is in motion. 30 seconds or whatever at a Stop Light is sufficient time perhaps for a brief texting moment.

Whether it's different or

@LS: Whether it's different or not is irrelevant. You're still distracted paying attention to that tiny screen and not paying attention to the things around you. Pull off to the side of the road if the text or call cannot wait, instead of impeding the flow of traffic or causing an accident.

she should

be banned from owing a car; forced to wear high healed shoes and forced to walk on gravel roads

I Disagree...

I disagree with your 'generalized' first thought/question.

It doesn't define who exactly should be banned from using c-phones while in the vehicle.

It also doesn't mention the operational status of said vehicle or it's location.

In my mind, your proposal is too vague to be able to make any type of a intelligent decision as to it's validity.

Even just holding the phone, whether stopped or moving, is enough for a $280 fine. This means they don't have get warrants to prove that they were texting or talking at the time.

You must be pulled off the road or parked.

Impeding Traffic...?

I've been in situations where I pulled up to make a left turn just as the left turn green arrow turned to red... and at which point the vehicles to my right started through on the green which then ended in red.

Then the oncoming left turn traffic was given a green arrow which then turned red... the straight through traffic then proceeded on green, etc., etc... and the process continued the same way for cross traffic.

Don't tell me I'm holding up traffic when I have to sit at a intersection for anywhere from 4 to 6 minutes depending upon the traffic situation. There's no reason why I can't make a quick c-call while I'm waiting for the signal to go through multiple changes!

Ahh, the answer to all our problems, one person screws up, let's penalize the entire world. How about just one time we, as a society, hold some dumbass accountable for what they have done. This person still won't agree she did anything wrong. She hits a cyclist and it's his fault. Whats wrong with banning her from driving? Whats wrong with her sitting in jail for some time. How many times must someone be told not to do something, before they are punished? She pays $4500. and all is well!, Oh I forgot about the guy with the broken back, well I guess he will just have to tough it out, after all He did dent her car!!!!

For punishment if this girl

For punishment if this girl was made to ride a bike instead of a car, she would still likely run over someone while texting while riding the bike. But the injury from being run over by a bile would be considerably less than being run over by a car.

Ban from driving !

She should be ban from driving.

You can suggest all you want as punishment

BUT, this gal would be the type that would continue doing what she already has (texting and driving).

Take her license away. She will still drive!
Punish her with a hefty fine. Probably won't matter to her.
