Garmin content toolkit

Hi again.
Anybody around here that has tried the 90 day free trial?
I am thinking about to do it but i am a little worried, maybe its good and i cant live without it??
Well i cant afford to pay 500 dollar for it so it could be the best to just leave it!
But i am still curious so i may try it. smile

best regards Jocke

Seems a bit much for the average guy

I suspect that between EPE and TurboCC's Voice Editors etc., that the average guy would have all he needs.

If you're e developer, this would probably be good.

Besides, if Garmin was smart and want people to develop things, they would be smarter to give this away for free. I can't see them making enough money on it, to pay for itself.

But.......when have we ever accused Garmin of smart engineering decisions?

I guess you are right, I will do good with Epe and the other software from Turboccc.
But curiosity is not an easy thing to cure.. smile

It's Been Around Awhile

GCT was originally released in 2007. There have been quite a few threads on it here since then if you do a search. The latest was last year, http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39619.

Although it looks interesting, $500 down and $500 per year is a bit rich for my blood.

Thanks for the search

Thanks for the search bdhsfz6, my skills with the searchbar is not the best.
And yes, $500 is a lot of money and for me it would be most for fun without incomes.
But a little peek would be interesting. smile

I also must look into the other thread with some comments, the threadstarter is doing pretty much what i am doing and i will encourage him to go ahead with the images in the file.

GPI Creator

Hi Sjoberg.

I tried GPI Creator from GCT for the 90 days period.
It works well and gives a lot of flexibility in making GPI files.
Too expensive though.
Support is null. Only the documentation (bad written) that comes with it. It has some sample files that you can play with.
It´s fast and also allows XML files as input files.

I tried also EPE but could not get an image JPG linked to a POI. sad

Thanks for the answer, i

Thanks for the answer, i have still not tried it and i think i will wait for the darks months here before i go for it.

I used to have some serious issues with the pictures in EPE, its now solved and for me it was user-related smile

In sweden we have these ÅÄÖ, EPE can handle them but i use Poiloader to create the Gpi-file directly to my garmin. Poiloader does not like these strange letters.
So for me it works if i use the letters a-z and 0-9 in the string of link for the image.

So i created a folder om my hard drive, in that folder i have a lot of subfolders for each category and i think i have about 2700-2800 jpg for a file with 3100 pois.
I use the button "Browse" when i want to link to an image.

It looks like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kmdu1caehybuzft/Extra%20poi%20edit...

Epe: http://youtu.be/Bdo40o_tq44
Poiloader and the construction of the gpi file into my garmin: http://youtu.be/eubhCcAVCRI

Well, actually it was not to my garmin, i made it on a flashdrive with a copy of the xml from my garmin. Thanks jgermann. smile
