UppTalk Free Calls SMS & text

Due to changes in Google Voice, this app Groove IP https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snrblabs.g... will be switching to a different provider to make and receive calls. You can find the most up to date information on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/snrb.labs

I have been using the Google Voice and Groove IP combo with very good results. Due to above statement.I started looking for a back up just in case the provider is not as good as Google Voice.Found this one.Has anyone tried it out?Like the fact you get incoming phone number.

Tried it

I've tried it. Had problems finding any phone numbers available in any of the area codes that I checked. Finally about a month later there were some numbers available in my local area code (but still far enough away to be a long distance call, not that that really matters). Audio quality isn't great. I've had reports from a couple of friends about "strange messages" when they tried to call me, but they were able to call back and get through. One time it reported a missed in-coming call from someone that I had talked to an hour ago. When I called them back and asked if they had tried to call me back, they said "NO".

Overall, better than nothing but could be a lot better. At least I was able to get Google Voice to "verify" the new number, I also set up a number with Whistle Phone and GV fails to verify that (it claims it is calling the number but I never get the call, even though I can call the Whistle number from GV). Still hoping to see what alternative Groove IP comes up with, although they are running it down to the wire.

Thanks for the feedback.

If Google Hangout is going

If Google Hangout is going VoIP in a few months anyway, what exactly is the benefit of switching?

FYI --

I had a similar experience.

there are good reasons to find an alternative

Maybe it matters to people who are not teenage girls and don't want to use something called "Google Hangouts". Personally, I don't post my life on sites like Facebook and I'm not going to start using Google's "social media" sites and apps. I'll let the NSA work work for my personal data, not give it to them on a public website.
