Garmin Internal Memory Size

If anyone has the 2797 ... if it is the same as many other Garmins you can press and hold the battery icon until the diagnostic screen shows. The memory size is usually listed on the screen top bar.

I can't see the memory being less than 8 GB, hopefully for you it is 16 GB.

Hope so too, I don't want to buy it until I know it's at least 8gb, but I can't find the information listed anywhere and I don't have the unit now, to check the "press and hold battery icon". I didn't know any units had 16gb.

How much internal memory does my automotive device have?
Answer:
The device's internal memory/storage space varies by model and by the software that is loaded to the device (e.g., firmware, maps, vehicles, voices, etc…).

To view the amount of available free space on most automotive devices, follow these steps below. Please note that some devices are not mass storage mode devices and will not support the steps outlined in this article.

Garmin Express:
Download Garmin Express
Once the device is Saved/Added in Garmin Express, click on Device
Under the Info tab, the Internal Storage will display the Free space1
Windows:

Connect the GPS to your computer with a USB cable
Double-Click on My Computer or Computer
A Removable Disk Drive will appear titled Garmin or nuvi, depending on the model
Right-Click on the drive and select Properties
Some devices require you to open the drive, right-click on the Internal Storage folder, then select Properties
A properties window will appear and it will display Free space1
MAC:

Connect the GPS to your computer with a USB cable
Go to your Mac Desktop
Your device will be mounted on the Desktop and appear as a new drive
Highlight the Garmin or nuvi drive on your Desktop
Hold down the CONTROL key on your keyboard and click once
Click on GET INFO
Look under the GENERAL section for the Capacity and Available for the size information
If you need more space than what is available, an SD (Secure Digital) card may be purchased to extend the memory.2 The SD card can be used for additional mapping, music, pictures, and custom POI files.

1Free space is the amount of memory left on the device to load additional information.

2SD cards are not compatible with all devices.

I don't own the device yet, so I can't preform any tests to determine the internal memory size.

Since my 2595 has 8Gb and the 2797 is a newer and higher end device, I can not imagine that it has less than 8Gb.

If it will power on in the store, then get to the diagnostic screen by holding down the battery icon and see what it says.
