Loaded in EPE last night and followed all the instructions on how to make a POI close to my home address to check out proximity alert. Great instructions easy to follow. Made POI showed up on Google and everything.Shut down computer went to bed. This morning turned on computer and get a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) error, restarted numerous times same thing. Went to System Restore point before loading EPE and now all is fine. Iam running XP sp3. Havent tried loading EPE in again. Anyone else have that problem

More Info Please

Could you provide more specifics about the DLL error? It would help to figure out your problem. I've run EPE on XP SP3 without any DLL errors...

The same or similar thing happened to me. I tried to run different programs the next day and it kept telling me it couldn't find certain DLLs. I was was beginning to think I had picked up a virus especially when I couldn't run my virus scanners, even in the safe mode. I went to do a restore and my recent restore points were gone, the newest was 2/22/14 so I thought that was better then nothing. When it was all done it told me the restore had failed. So now I'm really thinking I picked up a virus, then I remembered I had just ran Macrium Reflect on 3/2/14, so out came the rescue disk and all is well again. I've been sitting here racking my brain ever since wondering what happened because other then installing EPE I had not uninstalled any software or deleted any files. Maybe you solved the mystery. Now I'm leery about installing EPE again. BTW: I am also running XP with service pack 3.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

EPE

Wish I had written down the complete error and which DLL it was calling out. I liked EPE and will try it again. Not sure that caused the problem but I had not loaded in anything else that day. Before I load in any new program I always make a Sys.Restore point, so I can go back if needed. Will post after I try it again.

msvcrt.dll error

I reported that problem in the http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41568 thread (title msvcrt.dll error). Never got a real solution so I stay away from these updates. Too bad, I liked EPE but the dll problem has made me spend hours to restore and get back running. Not worth the trouble, really.

Print Screen package - you ought to have one

One of the ways to "save" error messages is to have a "print screen" program running in the background. There are a number of these packages, but I happen to like Faststone Capture for Windows.

One of the reasons I like this package is that is freeware; and, it is "portable" - meaning that it does not "install" itself in the traditional sense on your computer. It is downloaded to a directory that you name (mine happens to be in "C:\PortableApps\FS Screen Capture") and is run from that directory. I do this by navigation to the directory, right clicking on "FSCapture.exe" and choosing "Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). In its setting, I chose "Run when Windows starts".

If you don't like a "portable" package, you just delete the shortcut on the desktop and delete the folder in which the package was downloaded - and it is gone.

You can get this particular package at
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?q=faststone+captur...

I use FS Capture ALL THE TIME. I use it whenever I do online purchases or online banking to "capture" and save the "receipts" or "confirmations" that the website I am using produces.

Whenever I encounter something odd - like an error message - I immediate hit "Print Screen" and save the message - so that I can investigate it later.

No hunting for a scrap of paper and a pencil and trying to write down what is often a quite obtuse message: just hit print screen and save the entire screen (or active window - you have multiple choices) in a folder somewhere. Mine is in C:/MyPrtScrns/Error Messages.

You should try it.

@jale Did you try the installer

In that other thread, TurboCC suggested that you try the Installer

Did you do that?

If you did, I have to assume that you still had the problem, since there was no followup in the other thread.

Would appreciate knowing what you did.

thanks

No, I didn't try it. I probably need to put a few hours aside to go through it, but I'm quite busy right now chasing other things.
