Toyota 2014 nav system hacking

I didn't want it but what I did want came with it.
So now do I find a place for my trusty Garmin or can I add POI files to it?
Anything else that I can hack?
thx

Me Too!

I had the same situation where if I got what I wanted I had to have the NAV System.

I too would like to load POIs to it!

HELP!

Details, please

Look in the owners manuals or other info that came with the cars and give us as much detail as you can find about the nav devices.

catch

these built in GPS units from Toyota does not provide you free updates and want you to buy the next updates. The toyota does have their own POI with icons so they have been updated compared to the past Navs. I have the Toyota and the map is still old as they dont provide the latest. Check your map detail and it is still 1 or 2 years old. I use both Garmin & built in, however the traffic from Sirius XM is better and more up to date and current but needs a $$$ subscription.

It's a Racket

The car companies insist on including unwanted GPS items in their autos to increase their bottom line. Most are expensive to buy and to upkeep. Garmin is a much better investment.

Too expensive to keep up subscription

Most of the GPS systems in car are proprietary to the manufacturer and a person could only get updates from them. I have a car GPS, but that is so out dated that I don't use the function anymore that is why I have my Garmin.

well after 2000 miles I can

well after 2000 miles I can give u my opinion.

The nav system, in fact the whole console is a POS.
The backup camera takes 15 sec to come on when u first start the car - by then I am out of my 50' driveway. They will fix it when there is a lawsuit and a kid is run over.

the phone keeps disconnecting/reconnecting as does any audio device u plug in.

Beside everything mentioned above and other posts, the nav system is continually telling me to go in a different direction than my Garmin.

The only thing good is the sound of the radio and the HD radio feature (not XM), and the voice of the nav announcer.

So when my XM trial ends I won't even have traffic on it, which is std on my Garmin along with lifetime map updates which I paid $50. for.
