Using Garmin Express to download maps to computer

Can Garmin Express download new maps to be used in either Map Source and/or Base Camp? And if so where is that option.

Question: How do I install the maps to my computer with Garmin Express?

Answer:

Garmin Express is designed to be the one-stop shop for updating maps, updating software, managing favorites, and much more. With the newest versions of Garmin Express the ability to install mapping to the computer is available for users who require this feature.1

To install the maps to the computer:
1.Open Garmin Express
2.Click on Device
3.Click on Reinstall or Change Region
4.Click on Advanced Options
5.Click the drop down menu and select Computer Only ◦Windows only: If necessary, click Browse to change the map default install location.

6.Click Install Now

After a successful install the map can now be used with other compatible Garmin applications.

1Mapping can be viewed on a computer, using BaseCamp, without having the mapping image permanently installed, thus freeing up drive space. Simply connect the Garmin device to the computer for the map image to be read by BaseCamp.

What About To Computer and Device?

Map Updater allowed installing to both Computer and the Device as one operation. Can the new GE also do that?

Has Garmin Finally Fixed Garmin Express or Still Use At Own Risk

I've avoided GE, since it seemed to get nothing but negative reviews from POI Factory Members.

I'm getting the sense that Garmin may have finally figured this out, or is that being overly kind to them?

Re:Has Garmin Finally Fixed Garmin Express or Still Use At Own R

Greetings

When I had a Street Pilot C340, I had major issues using the older version of Garmin Express, so I used MapInstall.

Now I have a Nuvi 2555LMT and the latest version of Garmin Express. It works fine.

The instructions that I gave above were for installing maps to both the device and the computer at once.

Maybe Time To Try GE

Good to know. I also have the NUVI 2555 LMT.

Maybe I'll bite the bullet and try GE

too kind.

Just my opinion, but I think you are being too kind. Express still has several shortcomings. The very fact that Garmin has released about 5 updates in the past 2 weeks tells you something. I will use MapUpdater and WebUpdater as long as I can.

Do you really want that?

Not only does 'alandb' make an excellent point about Garmin updating GE about 5 times in just two weeks' time (why was that needed?), but...don't forget that Garmin Express runs constantly in the background on your computer (why is that needed?). Do you really want that?

Politicians and Diapers must be changed often for the exact same reason...

I've used Garmin Express..

...the last four times I have updated maps and I have had no problem with it. Previously, I used MapUpDater, but I decided to try GE and I am quite satisfied with it.

Re:Do you really want that?

Greetings

If you do not want Garmin Express running in the background on your computer:

Bring up Garmin Express,
Click on the Settings button, to the left of the ? mark, on the top right hand of the screen.
Uncheck the two "automatically update" selections
Select "never" for the Update Schedule.
