Best process to keep current?

I'm a very recent Nuvi 2595 owner after years with the TomTom line. I've downloaded several POI files and installed them on my 2595 and am curious as to the best method to keep things current. I have not installed a microSD card and do not have an organized file structure and, as such, have been using a process whereby I delete the Custom POIs.gpi file from my device prior to uploading an updated version (created from seven .csv and .gpx files) from a dedicated folder on my PC.

Am I going about this in a kludgy fashion?

Do I need to delete the Custom POIs.gpi file each time? The first time I didn't delete and found redundant files on my 2595 (this might be user error!) upon updating.

Thanks for the direction!

Create Subdirectories

Check out this thread. I think you will find the way to create subdirectories and the order to create them.

The conversation was a bit convoluted, so I sugest that you go to the end to learn how you setup the subdirectories. Then go back to the beginning and read through. That will show you about sort orders and give ideas of how you have to think this through.

Since you're new to the site, I also suggest that you check out the learn tab at the top right corner of this page. It will link you to FAQs etc.

Welcome to the community.

One thing Jon has had for several years on this site is a list of all the different files you have downloaded under the link "My Favorite Files." The file list is marked which ones are updated or "new" so you only need to check here for a refresh.

Building sub folders and storing your files there on your computer allows you to keep the most current versions ready for downloading to your unit. POI Loader automatically overwrites any existing file of the same name when you run the program. so deleting the old file isn't necessary. POI Loader does notify you of the existence of the earlier file and does require to approve its overwrite before running.

Personally, I check the status of my faves regularly, but I may not update the files on my GPS until there are sufficient new files. YMMV
