I downloaded and installed Garmin Express yesterday to be able to update to City Navigator 2014.40.
Just now I checked for an update and saw that yesterday's version (2.3.18.0) had an update available to 2.4.5.0.
The one difference I see in the Settings Options of this latest version is a new check box allowing for auto updates of Garmin Express.
There is no change log that I can find listing other changes made.
You're Welcome
Unlike others, I had no problems updating my 2595 with Garmin Express.

Me too, I have no problem with my GE

I was waiting for others to respond first but I'll give it a bite. My guess is that there's a mix of answers here for users who keep GE on their computer. I did use GE to update my three computers and three nuvis but once GarminMapUpdater 3.3.3 came out, I uninstalled GE.
I will further guess that the average map updater of nuvi devices--read that as not POI Factory folks
--used and have GE running in the background of their computers right now--and that this is Garmin's wish fulfilled.
I agree with CraigW.
The vast majority of Garmin customers that actually do updates have installed Garmin Express and keep it running on their computers. Most of them probably don't even realize it. If it causes problems for them, we will never hear of it. Those of us who are enthusiasts and spend time in the forums are a very small minority.
I will continue to avoid Express as much as I can. It has caused problems for me. But if a future map update requires Express, I will cuss, bite my tongue then install it again and hope for the best.

Thanks
I had turned off automatic updates. Haven't had problems with GE, so I updated. Thanks for the info.
Yet another update.....
Garmin Express is now updated to 2.5.3
Try 2.5.6 as if this AM.
I have found one thing that seems to dramatically help the instability of GE: Turn off the automatic update feature in the tools section. Once I did that, nearly all the goofiness went away.....
Frequency of updates.
As often as Garmin brings out these new versions, it is pretty obvious that they do little or no testing of the software. They should publish a change log so users at least know what was changed.

This Garmin Express is bordering on absurdity with all these updates.
Change Log entries should display, we fixed this, but broke that, and will contain numerous entries.
I for one will never install it again until it's working 100%. If Garmin decides that new MapUpdater 3.3.3 will not work with the 2015.10 map, then I'll skip the map update. Just not worth the aggravation.
How stupid is that, in order to add a voice using GE you have to download the whole language pack to get the voice you want. Then delete those that you don't want that were part of the language pack. What a waste of time that concept is.

Version 2.5.6
Garmin Express 2.5.6 is out and guess what. The extras still do not work. Need I say more?

Wise recommendation. I will do the same.

The voices/voice commands should not have been altered/removed by the installing software without explicit action from the users in the first place.

I am with you, double the amount the size of the file, you have to wonder what they had to do to make the size that large

I totally agree, it's a real farce

No I don't
Do you guys that have used Garmin Express allow it to run continuously in the background on your computers? Gotta love that feature...

No I don't let it run in the background. I have disabled it from running at start-up. I keep it installed though and use it to do the updates when I see them posted here.
I like GE because I don't have to run two programs to update both firmware and maps.
Not only did the latest version fail to autoinstall...
...it of course uninstalled my previous version which was working well enough for my 4 late version hardware units. Complained that I did not have "enough administrative rights" on my XP system. Did a clean install of the latest version and is now merrily downloading (presumably) the latest LM maps (which I really have no interest in).
Perhaps some day I will learn to leave well enough alone when it comes to Garmin software.
I did use GE for the latest
I did use GE for the latest map update because the MapUpdater didn't work. It did what it was supposed to do without any problem. I'll keep it on my computer just in case, but will use WebUpdater and MapUpdater unless they fail to do their job, like it happened recently. Of course I've made sure it doesn't run in background.
Express
Works great. Although I really didn't need to upgrade,ya never know what else they may have fixed. Sometimes there are small hidden software errors that only come up in just a few PCs, or never at all, but would cause the software to crash, or the Garmin to lock up. Software reliability is a really big deal where I work (unmanned aircraft). You wouldn't want the GPS on one of those locking into your home coordinates, being off by a digit to a bomb range!
Thanks for the heads up
I never leave GE running, so I always check here to know when there are updates.
GE
After it downloaded, it kept telling me that is was still the previous version, but would not download the new version. When I checked my Garmin directory, I found multiple Garmin Express version, none of them 2.4.5.0; so on a hunch, I removed all of them using the control panel, then downloaded 2.4.5.0 again. It worked, and notified me that a newer version, 2.5.2.0 was available, and downloaded and updated my system.
Look like updates sometimes leave the old versions behind and they interfere with the process
Had the same issue - very disappointed with GE.

Yet another update to Garmin Express
Now up to version 2.5.6. Lord only knows what was changed.
Maybe as boring a thread as when the latest North American map will be released?

I uninstall after purpose is served.
I found Garmin Express was more of a nuisance running in the background. I uninstall after a successful map update. When Forum reports an actual new map update. I just do a new install of Express and all appears to work fine.

What I fail to understand is Garmin has 3 months between map updates to correct any problems with GE.
It appears they wait until the map update is released to discover the problems, then come out with a flurry of updates in a feeble attempt to correct.
Garmin Express can be a useful program, hopefully some day it will be, but until then MapUpdater and WebUpdater will be the programs I choose to use.

Just installed Garmin Express 2.5.6
I have had no problems applying NuMaps updates to an old Garmin Nuvi 765T. Just updtated to 2014.4 and also updated Garmin Express

It shows a lack of testing. There are so many different models in consumer's hands right now that Garmin doesn't have the time to test the package against all of them. The fact there are major problems such as deleting voices on current models is inexcusable though.
