Garmin built-in POI data

I have a Garmin dezl560 LMT. It's been updated (with the latest 2013, not 2014 yet) and uses the TruckDown data as well as Garmins Trucking POI category.

Both of these POI datasets are very limited in actual truckstops, i.e. only the major ones are listed, and leave out thousands of smaller fuel stops and truck stops alike. Some of these aren't necessarily small, they are just independently owned and quite large. I have been on TruckDown's website and know they include these other truck/fuel stops in their data, but Garmin has for some reason left it out. I have used a Rand McNally TND520, recently borrowed from a friend, and it DOES include all of these POI's left out by Garmin.

My question: Is there a way to combine a POI dataset (such as http://www.poi-factory.com/node/32582) with the built-in Garmin one--either the TruckDown or the Garmin Trucking POI category?
I realize that I would have to do this each time I update the maps, but it would still be worth the minor extra work.
I believe I could do this, I am just not sure which file Garmin stores it's POI's in, or which one the TruckDown might be.

I always find it such a pain to have to search three different data sets for truck stops. It would be nice to just combine them and only have to search the TruckDown or the Garmin POI Trucking category.

The

The built in POI data on your GPS is incorporated into the devices map data (gmapprom.img). I know of know way of incorporating the TruckDown data with the built in Garmin POIs.

question

Is there a Truck Down or other file ending in GPI on your unit? I know some of the trucking units had a separate file that was compiled containing the database for truck stops and repair locations. If you have this you may - that's as in it might be possible - to use GPSBabel and convert that GPI file to a GPX. You could then use Extra_POI_Editor to merge the two files giving you just one file. Keep the truck down database separate as it is not updated but the POI-Factory truck stop file is continuously refreshed.

Truckdown

I've got a file named D3838060A.gpi and a correspondingly named D3838060A.unl file in my POI folder. The gpi is 18.3 MB and the unl is a mere 25 B. That might be it, BoxCar. I'll backup the original and try to convert it. Thanks.

If I can just incorporate the TruckDown with some POI Factory data I'd be more than pleased. Then the my only major gripe with Garmin would be the non-interactive overview map when searching for locations under "Where To".

I'll post back how this turns out.

Pffft, Off to plan B

Well it seems that gpi may be encrypted, not sure. GPSBabel couldn't digest it, so I submitted it to the developers for review (if they want to tackle it, don't blame them if they don't.)
I'm going to just combine the Truck Stop Master Guide file with another from POI Factory that just has all the major truck stops and use that for now.
Thanks for your suggestions.
