Garmin Express and Revo Uninstaller Pro

Watch out when removing Garmin Express with Revo Uninstaller Pro. I did that and scanned for leftovers and did a delete. It deleted everything Garmin. Apparently Garmin Express invades everything Garmin. MapSource, BaseCamp, Webupdater, ETC. I never had this problem with any program before. I had to do a recovery and then uninstall Garmin Express. I had to leave the other garbage it left behind.

Wow. Good to know.

Thanks for the heads up. I use Revo uninstaller (not pro) all the time and have never had a problem like that.

Interesting!

Like pwohlrab, I use the portable, freeware version of Revo Uninstaller and have uninstalled GE several times. I still have
Garmin's mapInstall, USB Drivers, Basecamp, POI Loader, Mapsource, Communicator Plugin, and several map updates listed in Revo.

jjen, I would contact Revo customer support and ask what happened.

I'm sure they would be interested in knowing what happened to you and we would be interested in their response to you.

Wow

Thank you very much for the info

What version of Revo do each of you have, and was it maybe a safe vs moderate or advanced search?

Agreed

I agree. I also only have experience with the free version and wondered, when I read this thread, what "level" of uninstalling was chosen.

I just ran a test

I don't know what happened with jjen, but I installed GE, rebooted the laptop, tested GE (still slow and jumping mouse by the way), the used the advanced section of Revo free to uninstall GE. The only other Garmin program I is poi loader and it is still there.

Maybe there are differences between the free and pro version?

Revo Uninstaler Pro

I always run moderate.

I have sent Revo an email. We will see what they say. I think I had uninstalled Express with it before without this happening and I haven't had an update of Revo recently. This was the GE version before this last update.

Thanks jjen

I also appreciate the head's up and that you notified Revo as well. RU usually does quite well, but that Garmin digs deep tentacles into the Registry is not surprising.

Revo

A non-answer answer. Looks like I ended up in the Philippines, as usual. I don't think I will be paying for another update.----------- Be prepared to do a recovery.

"Thank you for the inconvenience!

As Revo Uninstaller Pro is searching for leftovers, our program has also find you another Garmin softwares. In cases like this we do not
recommend on our users to use Revo Uninstaller Pro, or to skip leftovers searching process, as it is very difficult to distinguish which
leftovers to which program belongs.

By default Revo Uninstaller Pro is creating System Restore point before each uninstall, also you can find registry items deleted by Revo
Uninstaller Pro in our Backup Manager, and by default the files and
folders are deleted to your recycle bin.

Here you can find how to use Revo Uninstaller Pro Backup manager:

If you have any questions or problems related to Revo Uninstaller do not
hesitate to contact us again!
Thank you!

Perhaps calling the Revo Headquaters in the USA could yield a clearer response then the one received.

I'm just wondering

Have you been successful in using either Revo Uninstaller freeware or pro in the past and what install mode have you chosen- built-in, safe, moderate or advanced.

I had the freeware first then bought the Pro two or three years ago. I bought an update for Pro sometime back. I always use it to remove programs and never had a problem. I have always run moderate removal for the leftovers.

Question About Revo

Just wondering if Revo will clean up registry files of a program previousy installed. In simpler terms, if I installed a program 6 months ago and installed Revo today, will it clean up all the files?

Since most programs always seem to leave hidden registry files I don't see how Revo can clean all registry entries from 6 months ago.

I think it's possible if Revo was installed first, then was monitoring a new program install and recording all the entries.

If it is still on the computer

If it is still on the computer, the program would come up on its list when Revo Unistaller is installed.
