Icon for Garmin 3597

My head is a mess right now!
I have been reading some threads about making an Icon for some days now, i may have got some parts right, some not so right.
I even started up my Irfanwiew and tried to get going but i think i may run out of talent with this project.

All this things about size an colors, 256 colors, 8 bit,, 24 bit and something about magenta really screwed me up.

So, is there anyone in here that already create a simple pin and want to share it with me? that suits a 3597. (i have understand that they prefer larger icons)

What i really would like to create is something like this:

I dont now if its possible to do it with a shadow but i will give it a try someday, but not now. smile

best regards Jocke

Should Be easy

I usually just find an icon that I like by Googling something like "Beer Store Icons" and you'll usually find a bunch pop up. I Googled "Pushpin Icons" and I had a number of hits.

I then right click over the particular image and save it. These are usually jpg files, but you can find other formats.

Open with any photo editor program, Crop it to get just the image part. In your case do this to the push pin you show and crop to reduce the extra white around it.

Resize it to whatever size the GPS accepts. Most of the Icons on POI Factory will be around 24 x 24. Even if the 3597 accepts larger, the smaller icons will work. You don't want the icon to take over too much of the map, but that's personal preference. You should find that this size works with both your 350 and the 3597, which will save you having two different sets of icons.

Export as bmp format and name the same as the POI file that you're linking it to.

Hi again, its been a while

Hi again, its been a while but now i am gettin there.
I found a nice red dot that i liked and it is working in my 3597 after i convert it to .bmp
My problem now is that i filled the corners outside the dot with this thing i found information about on this site: RGB 255-0-255
(i do use the search sometimes)
And now i have pink corners around the dot in my gps.
What can i have done wrong?

I am using ms paint at the moment and i would appreciate it very much if someone gave a hint or show me if this is already mentioned in an other thread.
