POI Loader Says I Have Too Many Symbols Per Category

I created a POI file, with only 31 POI locations. "It says only 32 symbols are allowed per category. Please reorganize your symbols and rerun POI Loader"

I used EPE to create the files and all of the files use an imported symbol (icon). I made sure that i didn't use any of the symbols that are selectable in EPE. I also made sure that no other icon was named the same as my POI file. That means that I should have no more than 31 symbols.

Most symbols are used more than once, so I guess that there are no more than 10 different symbols that have been used total. i.e. Restaurant, bakery, Farm Market etc. are used for a number of different sites.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

More Info

Do you have other Custom POI files on the unit? And - if so, are they files in which you have added symbols?

Yes I Do

I have probably no more than 10 POI's loaded, but they would either have an Icon loaded that has the same name as the file. This would be the majority. In a few cases I would have icons added via EPE, for individual locations.

Do you have more than 32 subfolders in an folder?

Nope!

I have a total of eight subdirectories on the SD card, with the POI files. Only about five of those have any POI's in them, and there's likely no more than 2-5 files in any one subdirectory.

Just stabbing now.

In times like this, I suggest taking the file, editing it, deleting one POI location, save it under a new name, and load that new file with POI Loader.

Repeat until no error

32 symbol limit

The POI Loader error message identifies the problem directory. After the "only 32 symbol files are allowed for each category" there's a line that says - The category "subdirectory-name" exceeds that limit.

There cannot be a combination of more than 32 files and/or POIs with unique symbols in the subdirectory-name directory. For example, if you had 4 GPX files each containing 9 POIs with unique symbols, you would see the "only 32 symbol files" error message. (Count the number of BMP files in the directory as a quick check)

I went through each location and clicked the "Down Arrow" of the "Link" portion of EPE. I had changed the icon on about three or four of the locations in the past. I found that I had 2 or 3 icons for those particular locations. When you look initially, you see only one, until you click the down arrow.

I deleted the old icons and the problem was solved.

You indicate no more than 32 Unique Symbols. The file in question has 31 locations and all have unique symbols. If I loaded 4 or 5 more separate gpx files into the same subdirectory, but the extra gpx files had a single icon bmp that had the same name as these extra gpx files, would I trigger the warning. Would the bmp file be considered as unique?

32 is the maximum. 31+5 would take you over the limit.
