Custom POIs & Elevation Data

I have a new Garmin nuvi 2597LMT and I'm rather new to creating custom POI files but I have successfully done so complete with my own icons and sound. Is it possible for elevation data to display on my unit? I have "mountain peaks and summits" and "county high points" POI csv files with available elevation data but I can't determine if this is possible and, if so, how to incorporate it. Thanks.

Best to use gpx files. This allows you to include more data.Extra Poi Editor will do gpx file. http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor . Under FAQ look under Extra Poi Editor and you will see links for set up and etc.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6203 also.

Not Clear on the Question

Please clarify. Do you want to know if the 2597 will display elevation?

If so, the answer is yes. I would suggest that you change your dashboard to one that shows four segments at the bottom of the display. The default is a dashboard that only shows two.

There are a variety of options available for each segment and one of those is Elevation. The Elevation is calculated by triangulation to the satellites, and can be out by up to 150 feet. In most cases, it is likely much closer.

If you want to put the elevation into your POI, then charlesd45 is dead on when he says to use Extra POI Editor. Elevation is an item that can be added to the POI in gpx format.
