Cannot get Excel file into Garmin....!

I've done this before, but for some reason it's not working.

I'm going to Paris and taking the garmin edge 810 with. I want a list of some attractions stored in the gps so I can navigate easily to.

For some reason, I can't get the excel file to upload via poi loader into the garmin.... It says the file format isn't valid, even though it's csv deliminated...

Any suggestions?

Make sure you have coordinates in the right column see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25743

Have you loaded Custom POIs to that unit before?
Are you sure that it supports Custom POIs?

Exactly.

Have you loaded Custom POIs

Have you loaded Custom POIs to that unit before?

-Yes - I have somehow managed to do it before and have loaded in gpx locations of bike stores. These appear in the "Extras" section on the device.

Are you sure that it supports Custom POIs?

Yes - as above.

Where did the file come from?

I created the file myself. It's a simple excel sheet with a name of a location, street address and postcode, all separated by commas. If I can upload it here somehow I would, but is it possible?

Follow POI Loader examples

Are you surrounding the address fields with Quotes?

Only four (4) "fields" are allowed.

From the POI Loader Help file

Quote:

Creating .CSV Files

POI Loader accepts .csv files that contain longitude, latitude, speed alert information, and optional comments. You can create .csv files using a text editor, MS Excel, or a similar program.

POI Loader assumes a .csv file utilizes the following format for each POI (brackets [ ] denote optional text):

,,["][@]["],["] [comment]["]

Longitude and latitude must appear in WGS84 decimal degrees format (ddd.ddddd; negative numbers indicate West and South).

If you include quotes around the name or comment, you can include line breaks in the text.

The following are examples of Custom POIs in the proper format:

-94.81549,38.80390,Bonita

-94.79731,38.81099,Ridgeview@25

-94.74240,38.81952,Heritage Park,Perfect site for a picnic

-94.76416,38.81227,Garmin,"1200 E. 151st Street

Olathe,KS 66062
913/397.8300"

I'm confused. I've managed

I'm confused. I've managed to do this before without using commas...

These are an example of what I'm trying to load:

Notre Dame, 6 Parvis Notre-Dame - Place Jean-Paul II, 75004 Paris

Pompidou Centre, 19 Rue Beaubourg, 75004 Paris

Sainte Chappelle, 8 Boulevard du Palais, 75001 Paris

Pierre Lachaise Cemetary, 21 Boulevard de Ménilmontant, 75011 Paris

Opera de Paris, 8 Rue Scribe, 75009 Paris

Night boat tour, Vedettes du Pont Neuf, Square du Vert Galant, 75001

Montmarte, 36 Rue des 3 Frères, 75018 Paris

Ile de le Cite, 9 Rue de la Cité, 75004 Paris

Place de Vosges, 28 Place des Vosges, 75003

Belleville area, 157-159 Rue de Belleville, 75020 Paris

Versailles, Avenue de Paris, 78000 Versailles

Eiffel Tower, Champ de Mars, 5 Avenue Anatole France
75007 Paris

Napoleans Tomb, Place des Invalides, 75007 Paris

I'm offbase

Looking at manuals, I'm not sure you can use a .csv file - so what I furnished from POI Loader is moot.

The edge 800 can use .gpx files which are converted into "courses" when they are "copied and pasted" into New Files, but I do not see any similar comment in the Edge 810 manual.

I was wrong by assuming that you had loaded .csv to the Edge 810 before. I did a review and see that you said

So, let's have you think how you did that.

Do you have the longitude and latitude for each location in the file?

It won't load with just the address.
