Garmin nuvi 2597 Custom POI Descriptive Text Display

I have a new Garmin nuvi 2597LMT and for the last week, I have been creating/downloaded/editing POI files and learning about how to upload POIs to my unit with the Garmin POI Loader. I manually created my POI files. My first effort to upload about 10,000 POIs was successful. I designed my own icons and prepared my own audio alerts and all worked perfectly. I do have one annoying issue that I can't find any information on or know how to resolve, if possible. Maybe someone reading here can help.

In several POI files, I created line breaks (as instructed) in my name/description column. I've simulated a couple of routes on my gps unit and driven a few short routes and the descriptive text is not displaying as desired. The line breaks do not seem to be working or my gps unit has limited text display capability. I have not been able to find anything online about this issue.

Does anyone know what the text display ability is for the Garmin nuvi 2597? I placed the descriptive text in quotes and inserted commas where I wanted line breaks. I'm getting a single line of text that is not line breaking/wrapping. If you use a similar unit, maybe you can advise what kind of text display have you been able to achieve.

Thanks in advance!

Keith

line breaks

While I am not familiar with your particular unit, most Garmins use the line break-line feed character pair. If you use Excel to create your files, use the ALT-ENTER key sequence to create the line break in your files at the point you want the break.

@eKeith

Commas within quotes are not going to work

Try the Index. It may not solve your problem but it can point you to possible solutions.

I am also going to suggest that you check out Extra POI Editor (EPE) because Turbocc (its author) can do a lot of work for you in creating POI files.

Turbo lets you set

Quote:

The line break control may be set as:

CRLF (HEX 0D0A) - Carriage Return and a Line Feed

LF (HEX 0A) - Line Feed Only

(HTML) - Break for HTML files

| (Pipe) - treated as a line break

look in the index for "Line Breaks"
