GPS MAP 76 CSX screen flaking

Whatever covers the screen is flaking off, any suggestions on how to remedy or repair.

Thanks

flaking

It's probably the anti-reflective coating. It's described in the manual with warnings on what not to use to clean the screen. I would guess there's not much you can do about it except maybe install a screen protector sheet so it doesn't get any worse.

I use just plain water and a microfiber cloth to clean my screen.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Sorry to hear about that.

Sorry to hear about that. My 76csx has had a lot of use/abuse and screen seems ok. If you learn more, I'd appreciate the post.

Anybody know how to remove what remains of the reflective cover and replace with a new cover, short of returning to Garmin for refurbish ? confused

Garmin Refurbish........

I'd guess that returning it to Garmin will cost more than simply purchasing a new unit. Their repair costs are insane.

I always kept an invisible shield on my 76CSx so never had a problem with the screen. I have one on my nüvi 760 and my GPSMAP 78s as well.

I'm unsure how you would go about removing the rest of the flaking stuff from the screen. I never knew there WAS anything on the screen that could flake! If you can manage to get rid of the problem or get it down to a bearable point I'd suggest you still go ahead and install the invisible shield.

I suppose you could use what the manual tells you not to use to clean it.

I used new razor blades to gently flatten the surface of the screen. Used a few construction scraper razors and slowly thinned the screen.

Then put a cell phone screen on and trimmed the edges with the razor. Looks slick.

Now I can stand to look at it again!

Good luck and take your time to gently resurface the screen.
