Another election--

We have a (consolidated) election tomorrow (Nov. 5) in Santa Clara County; once again I'm working as a County election volunteer (technically, a Field Inspector).

This time I've been assigned 9 precincts in an area I've not supported before.

And it's Nuvi to the rescue! I spent yesterday driving to the different locations and establishing waypoints (I drive to them rather than doing it sitting at my computer because I want to get familiar with the area, get an idea of traffic patterns, construction, and so on).

I'm spread out over a wider area than usual, with one precinct 20 minutes away from the others (and that's with light traffic); Tuesday is going to be a long, fun day, and I'm really glad I have my nav set up! Finding my way from one precinct to another isn't something I have to worry as much about, delegated to the box on the dashboard.

The little nuvi...

helped us find two stores in town that we had never been to. Sure makes it nice!

Galesburg IL

Jill says Gal less burg. My local Sears closed recently, so we drove to Galesburg to pick up a bagger for my riding mower.
All the leaves on the block have found their way into my yard.

Work/Shopping

Another routine week. No unusual traffic issues.

Dancing

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights...Rounds, squares and lines!

Don't need the GPS around town but when I travel out of town, the GPS is quite helpful!

NH to NC

Time for our trip to go see the kids and grand kids. A big thanks to both kids on this veterans day as well, one of whom is deployed.

On the trip down our Nuvi 3490 worked well. Even traffic data was reasonably accurate with minor delays not worth a reroute. A couple of annoying reboots on an almost 900mi journey. Wish Garmin would fix those, happens every trip.

Silicon Valley to LA and back

850 miles -- between my Nuvi, and Waze on my iPhone, we managed to avoid/detour around a few messes (you can't avoid messes on the 405 in LA, other than to avoid the 405). The Valentine One radar detector was a big help as well.

I travel to LV each year and use the Nuvi to get around that mess myself. I'll be there again in January to go visit Garrmin at CES.

Nowhere

Just home watching the news.

Worcester-Downtown Boston-Logan Airport

No problems except when we were on one of the surface roads in Boston in the area where I90 east (Mass Pike) passes through underground. The Nuvi assumed we were somehow suddenly on the Pike and started routing us accordingly. No problem for me since I knew the area pretty well but would have been a real issue for some poor tourist! shock

Weekly Trip

My weekly trip to Roanoke. I can do it with my eyes closed, but I like to watch the route unfold. I also am waiting to see how long it will take for my 2555 to recognize that the shortcut I take is 5 miles shorter, and 5 minutes quicker. It even tries to make me turn in the middle of it to go back to the original route, which is just as further from me than the end of the shortcut.
