Hunting GPS Maps

I was shopping at Cabelas in Rogers MN today and I happened to see that they were carrying Hunting GPS Maps. I have never heard of those before, but I became interested after reading the details about it. Anyway, I am just wondering if anybody here is using Hunting GPS Maps and, if so, are they worth the price?

Hunting GPS Maps

I looked at the webpage a bit more and sent an email to the company because two of the counties in Minnesota that I am interested in and not covered. That got me to thinking that could have some benefit to people beyond just hunters. For example, someone involved in real estate might use this to readily identify the property ownership of a plot of land. Similarly, certain government employees might be able to use this. Say a rural deputy sheriff on patrol sees something and needs to know who owns the property, he could look at the Garmin and readily see who owns the land.

Also, would anybody here, even if you are not a hunter, have any interest in the ownership of real estate on a GPS? I suspect that most GPS users could care less about this. On the other hand, there are probably a fraction of users that would find this quite valuable.

I wouldn't be interested

There wouldn't be a real use for that information on a GPS in my opinion. Police officers and others working for the local authority would have access through their data terminals to all the information regarding ownership along with a lot more. Realtors usually do their research at a computer that can access tax records and a host of other information so there would be little use for that information. The other problem you would have is keeping the data updated. Writing the data to a SD card would normally mean the card wouldn't be updated and, if like a great many cards of this type, the information is locked and can't be changed without sending it back to the original provider.

Geocachers need permission from land owners/managers before placing a geocache. It would be nice to have access to ownership information, mostly to verify that they are placing something within an actual park boundary and not on private property or a right of way. It's also not always obvious if an area is owned/managed by city, county or state and then who the managing authority would be.

That is an excellent point. Perhaps I will look for some of the geocache websites and forums that I have visited in the past and pass along your tip, giving credit to you, of course.
