NUVI 24x5 and 25x5 (GCD File) software version 8.10

I connected to Webupdater a today and found an upgrade to 8.1.

As usual it includes the line about Improved Software Stability that was mentioned in other software updates. Haven't been able to try it yet, but expect no problems.

It's dated Sept 24, 2013.

Changes made from version 8.00 to 8.10:

Fixed several map display errors.
Fixed an error that could cause route calculation to fail after stopping a long trip.
Improved search bar, POI, and address search performance.
Improved consistency of navigation alerts and traffic notifications.
Improved highway shields in Norway and the United States.
Improved handling of via points in trip review.
Improved interoperability with Smartphone Link including Android 4.2 support.
Improved phone book and call history interaction between the device and a paired phone.
Improved software stability.

Does anyone know what they mean when they say they've "Improved Highway Shields"?

your link helped explain what the Highway Shield was, but I can't quite figure how the "Improvements" will show as far as the GPS is concerned. Guess I won't see until the next time I take a road trip to the US.

Cannot say that I noticed any difference

Cannot say that I noticed any difference with V8.10 here in the SF Bay area.

It is not that I am looking for it particularly. I would not know what to look for either, since I have not noticed anything out of place with the previous versions of firmware. Shields are one of those things that I do not pay any particular attention to while driving.

It probably means improvements in the way the Shield is displayed on the road you are traveling. I first noticed these on Secondary routes, but the little squares were so small I couldn't see them.

Hope POI Access is Improved

Thanks. I hope they improved access to Custom POIs. Way too many button presses required with current version.

FM traffic update too

thanks for the heads up, I will install v8.10 and I also found a database update for FM traffic providers 3.80 that I'll install.

Custom POIs Should Be Alooed to Add to a Shortcut

I wish that you could add a shortcut to get to Custom POIs. The ideal would be able to have a shortcut added for the specific POI, but I would be happy with the ability to have a shortcut going just to the Custom POI as a Category.

You can add shortcuts for all the other cetegories, but not Custom POIs.

I upgraded this afternoon and took it for a spin. With V8.10, the GPS functions the same as the older V7.90 I had installed previously.

EDIT: Removed comments about broken Smartphone Link functions. These were caused by new Google Maps 7.3.0.
