Not sure if anyone else has experienced this or not, but all of a sudden my nuvi 1250 has started acting a bit strange. If I am going less than 58 MPH, all the smaller side roads show up on the screen. As soon as I hit 58 MPH, the screen changes and only shows the major roads. The screen doesn't switch back until I am down around 45 MPH. I have tried zooming in, but still no side roads. I did a factory reset, no joy. Removed the battery, let sit for about 14 hours, factory reset, no joy. Is there some trick or command somewhere that is telling it to switch screens at a certain speed?
Details setting?
Does the 1250 have a least/less/normal/more/most setting for map detail? That may help. But especially when driving routes, it is true that side roads will disappear at times.

Map Detail Options
Once again Garmin Owners Manuals lack enough details.
It does not state what options are available in map details, quite possible they don't have least/less/normal/more/most choices. It may only be Normal or More. It did state by "showing more detail can cause the map to redraw slower".
I would check the settings and select another choice and see if that corrects the issue.
I would also check the available memory on the 1250 since very low available memory may cause the Nuvi to not behave properly.
If using Windows, open up Windows Explorer and right click on the Nuvi drive, then select properties and that will display the used and AVAILABLE memory.

de-cluttering
Garmin calls it de-cluttering the display. If you are traveling at highway speeds, it'a unlikely you are going to be using one of those secondary roads so they don't display them. This reduces the stress on the processor allowing it to keep up with the changing display and handle announcements and POI closer to real-time.

Garmin Owners Manual
I don't find the Garmin manual helpful at all Your are right, not enough detail. The best manual is the expertise from the members of POI Factory. Ask a question and someone will have an answer. Everyone is so helpful.

And, if you are, let me know so I can be nearby to watch. That could be exciting.
Interesting
I've never noticed that. I will look closer when I'm next on the highway.

Now if other web sites were so helpful... but if they were, then they would just be a poor copy of "POI Factory".
After all... it's hard to improve on "Perfection"

I own a 1250 and haven't experienced this kind of behavior with my unit. The truth is that with faster speed the GPS tends to zoom out but you should see side roads if you manually zoom in. If I was you I would switch to 2D mode. In this mode there is zooming level on the screen expressed in feet/yards/miles. Watch the level when the side roads disappear. As much as I remember you should have all roads shown on the screen up to zoom of 800 feet.
Show Distance?

My newer units do not seem to show me the zoom distance like my 765T. Is that what others are seeing?
De-Cluttering
Is there a way to turn off the de-cluttering. I like having the smaller roads show up as I approch them. When I'm in a strange area, it's nice to know what roads are coming up. I like to bounce the paper map against what Jack is telling me.
in a word?
No, you cannot turn off decluttering.

it's like that for my 2460

Never noted the actual speed it happens at but it's always been like that for all of the GPS's I've had, as mentioned at highway speeds you most likely don't need the smaller streets. Mine only shows the next exit as highway speeds around here are on limited access highways anyway.

I actually reloaded maps on our Garmins when it did this, thinking something was wrong.
The programming was very inconsistent and did the de-cluttering in certain sections of certain highway and not other sections.

The Garmin units zoom out at 58 mph to show you a wider view of your route or travels. It will zoom in when it falls below 45 mph.
The screen is decluttered because the redraw times at speeds over 58 mph would needlessly slow down the proper tracking of your progress.
If you want to see all these small roads, then, by all means, feel free to slow down and enjoy the view. Just remember to keep to the right as there are way more folks interested in getting on down the road in a timely matter.
