Is the ol' Nuvi 350 capable of using the latest Map (2014.20 NA) ?

Just wondering if the ol' Nuvi 350 is upgradable at all to the latest map (2014.20 NA).. It has 1.87 GB internal storage as well as the SD Card slot.

My sister had this ol' 350 laying around the house forgotten, but while cleaning the garage, she discovered it and wanted to know if it is even worthwhile to upgrade to the latest map available...

Thanks.

yes

likely the map would have to be on the SD card since 2014.2 North American map is getting close to 2GB itself. You could choose to install only certain regions if internal memory was desired.

There is a good FAQ on SD card usage at

But, if the nuvi 350 does not already have lifetime maps, you have the question of whether or not to buy the maps or a new unit.

Thank you...

Thanks for a prompt and useful response... My sister does not remember whether she bought the LifeTime Map upgrade feature or not. I guess with the cost of map upgrade going for $89 from Garmin, it may be cheaper to go out and buy a more modern GPS at or around the cost of the map upgrade.

It may be worth updating the maps if the battery is in good condition. If not, it's not worth it. The Nuvi 350 has an mp3 player built in, which hasn't been in more modern nuvi's fo a long time too.

Obviously, I still own & use one. I still like it.

no problem

The new maps should run just fine on an SD card ... there is not enough internal storage space on her GPS to load the maps.

Now, whether it's worth the expense to load the new maps (if she didn't subscribe to lifetime map) ... well, that's up to her.

Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.

Probably does not have

Probably does not have lifetime map updates associated with this device, better deal to replace the unit since the devices are so cheap these days since the 350 was released

One thing of concern

The City Navigator North America map image file size is currently about 1.98GB so a future update, maybe even the next map update, will result in a full North America map file size that exceeds 2GB. The nuvi 3xx series can not handle files bigger than 2GB (you may need to copy and paste the link below into your browser):

http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?supportPage=nuvi%20310&caseId={b4b6e4a0-f1af-11df-ea12-000000000000}&locale=en_US

so eventually map updates to the nuvi 350 will have to install a smaller map set to the nuvi as part of the standard map update, then use MapInstall to add the remaining map area to the nuvi as a supplemental map. It can be done, but it will be extra work with each map update and would be yet another reason not to consider adding lifetime maps to an old nuvi.

Nuvi 370

Don't give up on that old Nuvi. I love mine and it's easy enough to add the mapping to an SD card.
Recently picked up a 360 on Ebay for my wife for just over $30 with lots of extras.
Even if you have to change a battery it's about $20 or so online with instructions and tools included.
