Recalculating Gone?

I recently bought a 2555 LM. After a week of driving, I noticed that it was no longer announcing "recalculating" when I didn't follow the proposed route.

Did Garmin drop the annoying RECALCULATING?

... mercifully, yes.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but that is one thing I do not miss.

As renegade734 indicared it no longer says recalculating but calculates and announces the new route directions. I believe this took place around 2011.

I personally do miss it since it alerted me I made a mistake.

Recalculating Gone?

Greetings

Yes, none of the newer models say the word "recalculating".

The word is still in the Voice files, but the newer units no longer say it.

I also miss it, but that is because I used the TTSVoiceEditor
to change the phrase to "I am sorry, I will try it your way"

I Changed Mine To

I changed mine to: Ok, you're way master!

MIA--

My 2460 says "Have it your way" or it used to -- with recent updates, I haven't heard it, even when I deliberately avoid the route it's offering.

Not missed that much.

Yes ther is a visual indication, it shows caculating and the percentage, then continues on the new calculated route.

When driving on a new road, even "You missed the turn" repeatedly is annoying. Options: I can stop navigating or mute the sound until the new road rejoins the older road.

I'll have to check on my unit.

My 4590 doesn't have it

They removed it at some point. I was very happy.

On a 2797 it no longer

On my 2797 it no longer speaks that it's recalculating, but does show that it's recalculating on the top portion of the screen. Don't miss the spoken part at all.

Not on the 2595 either. I

Not on the 2595 either. I don't miss it.

Halleluah!

After recalculating the way I feel about Garmin, I can only say "halleluah" that they got rid of the annoying "recalculating" message!!!

Getting it back?

Is there a way or a tool that would bring "Recalculating" or what-ever funnier choice you made back on these new unit??

My wife's favorite feature.

The absense of the relentless "recalculating" is my wife's favorite feature of her new 2595.

That's funny, I changed mine to "selecting alternate route", but yours is better.

Recalculating

I didn't mind hearing "recalculating" as much as I minded the underlying condescending tone. (Possibly just a perception on my part.)

Recalculating Gone???

--Good!!!

I didn't see why we needed to be so often'ly harangued as condescendingly as that, anyhow!

Reclculating

I too found the word "Recalculating" irritating Instead of deleting it, I would appreciate an audible alert such as a ding. Often when alerted to a missed turn, I find it quicker to retrace my route to the missed turn then following the silently recalculated route. My 2460 might plot a route to correct an error and not alert me to the next turn until I approach a close proximity to it. I have found my self adding several miles to a route when a short redo would be much better.

SW update?

Is it a software update that gets rid of it or is it the newer models? I have the latest builds but I still hear the "recalculating".

I'm curious what made it suddenly stop saying recalculating during that week. Did you do any updates to the unit?

I used TTS Editor to rid it from my 775 years ago...

Clarification

telecomdigest2 wrote:

My GPS unit did not suddenly STOP making the announcement - it was a NEW unit, and never did. I have used a 660 and a 3790 over the past seven or eight years, and "Recalculating" was one of the most frequent comments Jill made redface

But the touchscreen on the 3790 died while we were on vacation and I got a new Garmin 2555. It took almost a week before I noticed there was no announcement when I did not follow the route set by the GPS.

I was just surprised it took me that long to figure out that "Recalculating" was gone!

Hearing “recalculating”

Hearing “recalculating” is very annoying. But nowhere near as annoying as missing a turn and not noticing until miles later. When I am deliberately not following the Garmin route, I just turn navigation or sound off for a while. I am sad to see that feature go away, although I do admit a better phrase would be nice.

How about, Oh! Do you want

How about,

Oh! Do you want to park and play now?

My updated unit still says

My updated unit still says "recalculating".

I know that it is mind over matter, but what makes it worse is that Jill always sound perturbed (and even more so as it goes on) every time she announces that the route is recalculating.

It does seem like the consensus here at the Factory is most people are happy its gone. I am in the minority and wish it remained.

I am still able to hear it if I use my backup Nuvi 660. I changed my recalculating to "wrong turn you idiot, recalculating". The sound humbles me a bit since apparently I'm not as smart as I think I am. grin

My 1490 continiously tells

My 1490 continiously tells me it is recalculating, especially in areas five or less years old that don't exist, or when I go to Fargo ND and try and use the Garmin to get to the new Costco where it tries to take me on roads that haven't been built yes...LOL

Me as well

I likes it and I also enjoyed the possibility we had to change it to something more enjoyable or, for those that didn't like it much, shorter. The audio advise that we have left a calculated course was useful in many cases.
