No auto time update after recent map update

I took my first multi time zone trip since I updated my map/firmware on my 2595.
This is the 1st time I've noticed that the time zones didn't automatically change for me.

I've looked through the setting for an automatic change but can't find one.

Is this just me?

time zone file.

Use Webupdater to see if you need to update the time zone file.

Just wondering if you being in Arizona has anything to do with it since Arizona does not follow Daylight Savings Time. I don't see why that should make a difference since it should be your satellite locking into the are you are presently in and diplaying the correct time.I would think just by going to Utah or New Mexico you should see the hours difference during Daylight Savings from mid March to early November.

BTW, my gmaptz.img (Time Zone) is the latest at 528KB.

Check this

Assuming you have the Time Zone file, the update may have just somehow unchecked your auto time. On my 2460, it's:

Tools/Settings/System/CurrentTime and see if the Automatic is checked.

UTC Setting?

Good point I believe by default it is always set to automatic and not changed with any hard resets.

However, the 2595 does NOT have the option of automatic. Looking at the manual it shows three options, 12 hour - 24- hour- or UTC (Universal Time Coordianted). I think if UTC is selected it will not show the correct time when Daylight Savings is in effect.

Here is the link regarding UTC info:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboututc.shtml

Here is a portion of what is stated:
"The switch to daylight saving time does not affect UTC. It refers to time on the zero or Greenwich meridian, which is not adjusted to reflect changes either to or from Daylight Saving Time."

I wonder if member JimElvis has the UTC box checked.
If so, maybe by checking the 12 Hour option would correct his issue.

To change on the 2595 go to> Settings> Units And Time> Time Format

.

The UTC setting only affects how the current time is displayed.

Try CraigW's suggestion to see if the auto time setting is unchecked on the 2595.

Go to Settings -> Units & Time -> Current Time and make sure that the Automatic box is checked.

Thank You For The Info

CraigW's 2460 and mine do show automatic in time settings. Interesting that both manuals for the 2460 and 2595 do not indicate the automatic setting in current time. Not owning a 2595, I was not sure it was available on that unit. Thanks for setting me straight.

You

You will find the "Automatic" setting on the 2595 under Settings - Units & Time - Current Time. Of course you'll need a time zone .img file in the .system folder for the time zone changes to work.

Thanks for all the great tips.
The "Automatic" choice is greyed out. Have to find the file.
Never had this issue before the recent update.

12-hour

Appreciate the info. I have the 12-hour box checked. I'll try switching to 24-Hour and then back to 12 to see it that wakes it up.

Web Updater reports that I'm up to date.

I don't even have a system folder.
I really am messed up.

Use WebUpdater To Update Time Zone File

Your Automatic setting should not be grayed out, this makes me think there may be a problem with the file. The gmaptmz.img file is in the .system folder.
I noticed on my 2460 the original gmaptmz.img file was 594KB and was in small case. The updated one is in large case (GMAPTMZ.IMG) and has file size of 578KB with a later date.

Have you ever updated from your post on the subject last year?

Good point, if his Windows system is still at default mode he won't be able to see the .system folder. In addition to the above, I UNCHECK "hide extensions for known file types".

Delete and use WebUpdater

I renamed GMAPTZ.IMG and rebooted my 2595 - the Automatic setting was now greyed out. WebUpdater offered to reinstall it (Time Zone Map).

I renamed the file back to GMAPTZ.IMG and rebooted my 2595 - the Automatic setting was now available, but I had to touch the check box to enable it.

Since WebUpdater did not offer you an update, it seems your GMAPTZ.IMG must be corrupted. Deleting it and running WebUpdater should fix your time zone problems.

FYI, my Time Zone Map file from 2014.20:
GMAPTZ.IMG (591,872 bytes)created ‎Wednesday, ‎August ‎21, ‎2013, ‏‎9:49:37 PM (date of my last map update)

The file indeed must be corrupt since Web Updater indicated he was up to date. By deleting it WebUpdater will install a fresh copy. Just to be on the safe side, renaming the existing file is wise. Once the new download solves the issue he can delete the renamed file, another option is to back it up and then delete it.

As I posted earlier my 2014.20 GMAPTMZ.IMG file is 578KB which is exactly the 591.872 BYTES you show. My Map update of August 21, 2013 at 8:22PM was 15 minutes later than the GMAPTMZ.IMG update (8:07PM).
This appears that a map update caused the Time Zone map to also be updated. The August 21, date is the date the 2014.20 was first released.

An excellent experiment. Jim should be up and running with auto time after following your advice plus the earlier advice to switch from MTP to MS mode in case he needs to move or delete the likely-corrupt TZ map to get WebUpdater to re-offer the TZ map.

The latest update fixed it

I did an update a few weeks ago and its now changing time zones. The box is no longer grayed out.

.

About time... smile

Glad to hear it's now working for you.
