Considering An iPhone

Even though I like my Nexus 4 and the Android OS, I am considering an iPhone to see how they compare. I really want the ability to use Dyle TV and the Garmin StreetPilot OnBoard App. Anyway, now that the Garmin StreetPilot OnBoard App has been out for a while, how well does it work? Is it pretty stable or does Garmin still have some "bugs" to work out on it? Having had both the Garminfone and Nuvifone, would it perform pretty similar to each of those?

Why is it that denizens of other platforms have to toss pejoratives like "crApple"... you people are truly pathetic.

Hey, it's called opinions...last time I checked, the header of this thread was: Considering and Iphone. So how about you tell the person who started this thread don't bother to ask the question, because I don't want to hear others opinions.

Google is an advertising and data mining company. That is the source of their revenues. They produce software for mobile devices in order to deliver ads and mine data that can be sold. Facts. If facts are insults to you... oh well...

What Android app?

You can probably get the iOS equivalent replacement.

Well, the iPhone 5S reservations, preorders, etc. are sold out.

I'll be refreshing my iPhone 4S with a 5S in a month or so.

Good Luck Folks!

The fact that some have refused to honestly compare the iphone to other good/better products out there is expected.

Over-priced hardware has a way of convincing people they made the best purchase decision even after they realize that is not entirely true BASED ON THEIR NEEDS. A bunch of apps you'll never use is not a problem .... really ... enjoy NOT using them ... you paid for it!

While needs vary, over-priced hardware should NEVER be tolerated. If it is, it's called manipulation.

Good luck with that ...LOL

Not free

But worth the $$ in my opinion. Free often isn't... you may be subject to ads in the app.

Beauty Is In The Eyes Of The Beholder

I can not believe the prices being charged for Android devices. Profoundly overpriced. They refuse to consider the iPhone and compare it to their precious Android device. If those people would compare to the other options, they would see the value. It's not just the sticker price, but the cost of owning. That's the beauty of the iOS platform... it's just a platform that is open to apps that the user can choose and select based on their needs. Just wonderful.

I use Michelin tires, one of the most expensive tires to purchase, but turns out to have the lowest cost. Pricey to purchase, but delivers the lowest cost per mile than any other tire I've used. Turns out that the very expensive tire is the lowest cost. Who woulda thunk it?

But then, there are people that have never used MacOS and hate on it too. I hope they are enjoying all the new innovation that Windows has to offer.

And to all that think iPads are overpriced, I hope you are enjoying your Surface.

Here's an interesting idea, although it's just an idea at this point. I signed on to it, because I'd love the modular flexibility to add or enhance (or remove) modules as needed.

Considering An iPhone

diesel wrote:

Well, that is interesting that you should bring that up. I buy my phones outright because I don't like the manipulation of carrier subsidies which lead some people to believe they got a "free" phone. My Nexus 4 starts at http://www.google.com/nexus/4/ $199, which I think is reasonable. The Apple iPhone 5C starts at $549.00, which I don't think is reasonable.

For as much as I wanted to try an Apple iPhone 5C, I simply can't justify the price difference between a Nexus 4 and Apple iPhone 5C for right now. Perhaps in September 2014, when the iPhone 6 is announced, I will spring for a 5C. By that time they might lower the price to $449!

If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else. - Yogi Berra

Oh Boy...

Apple's products are end-user items of highly integrated hardware and software. Apple has always made it clear that hardware and software must be designed together as one of their basic principles. That is what sets Apple apart from the rest.

Apple does not exist to sell advertising, as Google does. Without advertising, Google ceases to exist. Google does not have a product portfolio of hardware such as computers, music players, tablets, etc. Do you have a ChromeBook? That is a very inexpensive device for people to use the internet to expand the size of Google's data mine and advertising market. Have you seen sales reports on the ChromeBook? How much profit does Google make on the ChromeBook? Are people lining up to buy the ChromeBook?

And I'm not too sure about ads in Apple apps. There are ads in 3rd party iOS apps, and that is to be expected, but I don't see ads in genuine Apple apps. Please point out those Apple apps that have ads. I just went through my portfolio of Apple iOS apps, no ads.

Diesel, I was referring to my TomTom USA and TomTom Europe apps. Since I already have lifetime maps for both, I'd rather not have to pay for them again just because I changed my cellphone.

I know I can transfer them to another Android, but can I transfer them to an iPhone?

Yep

which ever you like OK. Some like Apple some like Android. Some people are Democrats and some people are Republicans. What works for some don't for others. Glean the information that works for you and go with it. I started in the 80's with an Apple II then a few years later went with the PC, now I'm back to Apple because it works for me maybe not you and you but for me. I think the point was stretched here a bit. If I missed it originally it was what app for a iphone works best. Stick with the questions at hand. Oh well I shot off my mouth. I like this site a lot for the help that is given. Peace brothers.

I hear you! I like to bash

I hear you! I like to bash Apple, but I'm typing this on my Mac Mini, and I have my 24 inch IMac in the other room, along with my dual processor Mac and my old 9500. I also have PC's in there, and a nice homemade PC right next to me. It's not a matter of "this is right and this is wrong", it's a matter of "this is right for me and this is wrong for me." It's all a matter of perspecitve! I use Android, but the day Apple open sources IOS is the day I buy an iPhone.

what is the definition of genuine...

All of Google based apps have no advertisements or genuine apps as pointed out...These would be the apps on the actual device during purchase of the device...But 3rd party apps as you stated like tango, Google earth...picsay pro...all have up gradable features...or ads as you put it.....not to say the Google is not ad supported, but iOS keeps things free by this same idea.....How do you think they make there money, by charging for the app only with out a preview or demo. Really?

??

allbizz wrote:

I don't know. Maybe by selling 9,000,000 new iPhone's the first weekend.?

Days being numbered

I use to think that RIM (blackberry) would continue to be a powerhouse back in the early 2000s. So it could happen to apple if they do not play their cards right. I looked at the new product line and it does not entice me to upgrade my iphone. Yet sales so far have been fantastic.

I wonder if Metro PCS is

I wonder if Metro PCS is using Iphones yet.

Key words at the forefront of the article: "While Apple announced record-breaking iPhone launch weekend sales of nine million units earlier today"...no shocker here. Also, the biased website you received your source from: macrumors.com. Really? I'm sure the Wall Street Journal uses this source religiously. Lost for words...wow.

My point was not so much about how many iPhones Apple sold, but to point out to you where they get their money from because you were insinuating, that they get their money from advertising in their apps.
