Update Service

I have been trying all day to update my nuvi 50LM and keep getting message that connection to update service has been lost please wait. So I waited for long time and nothing happened. Tried to call Garmin and also they have 30min wait anyone have idea of how to get system up and running so I can update my GPS. THANKS

Using Garmin Express?

Try Map Updater instead...

PC Version

Restart connection to update service

I have the same problem with Express. If you go to Services, look for Garmin under the services tab you will find that the service is disabled. Right click and turn it on and connection will be restored. You can reach the services tab in Win7 from start/run and type services.msc then enter.

But

But with the Nuvi50's limited internal storage space your probably better off using MapUpdater which can be obtained from the links already posted. GE has can have a terrible time with map updates for Nuvi's with limited internal storage.

Map Updater

Thank You it worked......But said I did not have enough memory, and I just purchased a Garmin 4GB SD card so I don't know why I did not have enough space card would only go in one way so I don't know how I messed that up - any ideas.........At least I now have lower 48 up to date. Thanks a bunch

2 nuvi 50LM models -- either Lower 48, or 50 states plus Canada

The 50LM should be given the option of map updates installed to SD card if (and only if) the largest map it's entitled to receive won't fit internally:

BUT, there are two different models of the 50LM (with a $10 differential in MSRP):

My guess is that you own the 1st version, the 48 states version rather than the 50 states and Canada one. Neither includes Mexico so a 50LM will never receive all of North America during a map update.
