JCV file for CN EU NT 2014.20

Re: Split-screen JCV file for CN Europe NT 2014.20

I have a nuvi 3790, with preloaded CN North America NT map.
I bought CN Europe NT map on DVD and installed it on micro SD card.
I bought Lifetime Map-update for both NA and EU maps.
Everything works fine, but with the EU map-updates I do not get the JCV file for Europe.
I heard, that I could download and install the matching JCV file with each map-update to my 3790.
Therefore I would greatly appreciate any advice about finding the Split-screen JCV file for CN Europe NT 2014.20.
Thanks for your help.

JCV files

I am glad Cosmopolitan that you ask this question cause I had the same problem but I resolve it.

I have Garmin nuvi 1450 it was given to me by my Sister as a gift. And I never see not ones on my Gps any 3D building or any lane assistance,Cause the Gps did not contain any JCV files in it. I know that the JVC files must match the version of map that I have on my Gps 2011.20 But I like to know why the 1450 did not have any JCV files in it.

My sister she have a 1490T and guess what She did not have any JCV file on her Gps too..

I know that JCV are big files so what i did I got me an 8GB micro Sd card and I find them some from here and other site I Install them and they work great,

I download and Install the Split screen and the full screen version, The High resolution and always show me the full screen version (and I prefer the full screen over the split screen).I do not know about the EU JCV but I am sure if you goggle it I am sure you will find them.

But why my 1450 and my sister 1490T they never had any JCV file in it for me it still remain a mistery.

I also like to know what model Gps have the features to show the GAS Price..Yes my gps it show me the gas station the location and even give the phone number, but never the price. I like to know if they are avaiables for the 1450 and 1490T.

Good luck with your search I hope you find them.
P.S. why do you prefer the split screen over the full screen?

3790 and JCV files

My knowledge is only of the North American maps, so take this reply with a grain of salt.

The nuvi 3790 should not need to manually download or install a jcv file--the map update should result in the nuvi 3790 receiving the correct large split-screen JCV for both NA map updates and Europe updates.

Two thoughts:

1) Since your device has both the NA and European maps, do you have both maps active or are you unchecking the map not needed at the time? If both are active, try unchecking the NA map and checking the Europe map, then simulate a European route that will include a Junction View.

2) If all else fails, this could be a case where a call to Garmin Customer Support is worthwhile. If this results in success, please relay your findings to us here.

One other thought: if you look at the files on your nuvi and SD card, tell us what jcv files you see. (This assumes you've made sure your nuvi is in Mass Storage mode and that hidden and system files and folders are visible, etc.)

File names?

Like CraigW, I have no experience with Europe maps so this comment is just speculation. Does anyone know how the Europe JCV files are named? Is it possible the Europe and NA JCV files have the same name, and therefore would allow only one file to be installed?

You could test this out by using the cloning method to install the Europe map update to a SD card or thumb drive. Then check the files on the SD card to see if any JCV file exists.

JCV File

I'm not positive but I think the split screen 2014.20 Euro map is named D3084011A.jcv and the full screen is D2504140A.jcv.
The North America 2014.20 split screen is D3191100A.jcv.

Not possible to have the same name. Each JCV file has a distinct name, whether full screen or split for the map version it goes with. Since Euro and North American maps are different they would not be named the same.

@Cosmopolitan
This sounds like a very expensive purchase on your part.
You state that you bought the Euro map on DVD and installed it on an SD card. When purchasing map updates on DVD they do NOT include JCV file for that map. The reason being, different models use different JCV files and the DVD cannot determine what model you have.

Since you state you also bought lifetime map updates for both North America and Europe, you should be able to download the correct Euro JCV file for your 3790. Do you have both maps on the 3790 (8GB memory) or only North America on the Nuvi and the Euro on the SD card?

If Euro is on the SD card,, I would use a new 8GB Sd card and sign into Garmin, select My Maps. If the 3790 shows the 2414.20 map available, then download it to the new SD card. This should also add the JCV file to the SD card. Lifetime map updates will download all files needed for the map, including the two voice files (.ASR & .SRX) for those units that have Voice Command.

found them

Cosmopolitan on your Internet search bar just type this.

JCV EU 2014.20 MAP

you can select the very first one or the 4th from the list

1). GARMIN NT EU 2014.JCV>Nonvule.com
or

4) GARMIN CITY NAVIGATOR EUROPE NT2014.20

I like this thought

This is what I'd try if I were cosmo... it will give you the files you need (jcv, voice recognition, etc.) and they'll be straight from Garmin rather than from a file sharing site.

Regarding just getting the European jcv file for a specific nuvi series, it seems that if Garmin offers the North American download for the current map:

http://download.garmin.com/support/2014_20/NA/JV/D3060110A.J...

that Garmin may also offer the jcv file for Europe, if only we knew the URL.

I would like to thank

I would like to thank everyone for their help.
I bought the 3790 (preloaded with the CN North America NT map) over two years ago.
One year later I bought the CN Europe NT map on a DVD and installed it on a 8 GB micro SD card.
Everything works fine, when in Europe I insert the SD card and select the European map and uncheck the North American map.
When back to Canada I remove the SD card and of course put check mark on the North American map.
The 3790 works perfect in both continent, but in Europe there is no Junction View.
Garmin answer: "maps purchased on DVD do not include JCV and 3D files".
I have lifetime Map-update for both NA and EU maps.
I have updated my maps several times, using Garmin Map-updater, with no problems at all.
With the latest 2014.20 update I have JVC file: D3191100A.JCV (470,447 KB), which is the proper split-screen file for the NA map.
There is no JCV file for the European map (either on the SD card where the EU map is, nor on the 3790 where the NA map and the D3191100A.JCV file is).
I can use the 3790 in Europe without the junction view, but it is nice to have it in North America.
The Lane-assist feature works in both continent.
A friend told me: if I could find and download the EU JCV file to my SD card, where the EU map is, I would see the junction view feature in Europe also.
The reason I am looking for the split-screen JCV file, because it is smaller and contain the same number of JCV locations.

That's Odd!!!

If you downloaded the CN Euro Map using MapUpdater to your SD card I can't understand why the JCV file was not included. Did MapUpdater install a JCV folder to the card?

muell9k No, the MapUpdater

muell9k
No, the MapUpdater never installed the JCV folder on the SD card, or the 3790.
The SD card has:
\Map\City Navigator Europe NT 2014.2.img
\5b08da68........................gma
\Garmin\empty folder

Thank's for advising, I'm stumped. Hopefully others may have better suggestions.

Here's something that may help from a Garmin forum:

https://forums.garmin.com/archive/index.php/t-19241.html

Ugh, it appears that poor cosmo has been trying to resolve this for years:

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=138624

A Garmin faq:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

specifically

Junction View and 3D building view are only included with compatible devices' preloaded maps or updates to those preloaded maps. Supplemental maps will not include these two features.

That is disappointing. It seems that the best solution for a new GPS shopper that wants Junction Views in Europe and North America is to buy two devices, one for each continent. (And given the cost of buying the full other continent plus a numaps lifetime maps update for that continent, the cost of two LMT devices isn't that different from trying to get both continents on a single device.)

Good Information

CraigW wrote:

Looks like I was wrong that after market Lifetime Maps will not include a downloadable JCV file.

Maybe some members here that did buy an after market Lifetime Map can confirm these map updates will not include JCV files. This will also mean those who purchased these maps will not receive Voice Command files for those units that have that capability.
All the more reason when purchasing a new Garmin GPS buy one that includes Lifetime Maps.

Filenames are different

CNEUNT 2013.41 full-screen JCV filename: D2504120A.JCV
CNEUNT 2014.20 full-screen JCV filename: D2504140A.JCV

Therefore, 2014.30, when released, should have the filename of D2504150A.JCV.

Not a good choice in my opinion since none of the models that come preloaded with both North America and Europe come with Lifetime map updates.

2370LMT trans-atlantic model with NA life-time map

Garmin did offer tranatlnatic models, such as the 2370LMT, with life-time maps for North-America only(?!) and traffic.

They discontinued that option for whatever reasons.

Thank you

My conclusion about receiving junction view in Europe with my 3790, is only possible, if I could:
either - find the proper URL for the split-screen 2014.20 EU JCV file download, from Garmin (as it is available for NA JCV),
or - find someone, who has this JCV file in his device and I could copy this JCV file to my 3790.
I am somewhat hesitant to get this JCV file from unknown torrent sites.
I appreciated all your help and ideas in this topic. Thank you all.

I agree. What you need is a person you trust with a device that has the latest City Navigator Europe map with the JCV who's willing to burn a copy onto a CD-R or recordable DVD and mail it to you. If it doesn't work, you haven't lost anything--and if it does work, you're set with the current map with JVs until your next map update.

Even if this occurs and works for you, the downside is that with each Europe map update you do, you'll need to repeat the mailed disk transfer.
