Map Updater vs. Express?

What is the difference between map updater and express?

Does either update software and maps?
Which is preferred if so?

Then there is Web Updater. Is that relevant any more?

Garmin Express is supposed

Garmin Express is supposed to combine the features of MapUpdater and WebUpdater in allowing you to update the maps and the firmware. It also allows you to back up certain aspects of your device. Unfortunately it suffers from being excessively buggy to the point of being virtually unusable, depending on who you talk to.

The recommended software for updating the maps is MapUpdater. Use WebUpdater to update the device's firmware.

The difference is elementary

The former works and the latter doesn't.

Map updater vs Express...

Don't much like Express at all. Took me three days to get the latest maps (2014.20) up to my Nuvi. It's too slow, too unresponsive, doesn't allow directing the download to another drive (with more space, e.g.), but tries to do it. Just a mess, IMO. C'mon Garmin. If this is the best you can do, we should go to Tom-Tom or Waze or something much better.

Map Update vs Express

My 750 ran out of internal memory 3 or 4 updates ago, don't remember when for sure. Express wouldn't install updates to my SD card and wouldn't allow me to download the complete update either. I switched back to Map Updater and haven't had any problems with it yet. Express is no longer installed on my computer.

Map Updater

After reading about so many problems with Express, I stuck with Map Updater & Web Updater (my old nuvi 660 hasn't had a firmware update in a long time) because they just work.

I used Map Updater a couple days ago to install 2014.20 and it completed without a hitch in pretty quick time.

Express isn't even installed on my PC.

Sometimes the latest isn't always the greatest.

little buggy on Mac

I personally like the Garmin Express for the Mac; but if it would recognize my devices more quickly, I could like it little more.

Garmin Express

Map Install worked very well for me, as Express failed on 3 different PCs, 2 of which have never seen the program installed before. I believe it could be my Nuvi that has the issue, although I know others have been able to use it successfully...

Garmen Express

I have tried to use Express three times. Everytime it did not work and screwed up my PC. Map Updater works fine on my 350 and 1390.

Garmin Express

Express as not enter my PC and never will

Express

I just bought me a 2555LMT and use express to update everything and it all seemed to work. Took awhile but worked. Never used map updater so don't know if it worked better or worse but it did work. If some of u gots problems maybe it's your computer. Do a quick tune up and see what happens. Use Ccleaner, then malwarebytes.

A lot of us have been there and done that. From the posts on it there seems to be no one reason why it acts the way it does. I tried my laptop. It is clean and well maintained. It has a 2.5ghz processor and 3.42gb ram. For me my mouse was jumpy and it consumed over 50% of my processor.

All Maps Erased on Garmin 3597 :<

Well I use to use Garmin Express and never had any problems until today. I went to update the maps to the latest version. After Garmin Express updated the maps and reset all my maps where gone. Will installing 2013.20 again put all the maps I had on my 3597 when i bought it new.

I have uninstalled Garmin Express and mainly using Map Updated to reinstall my maps.

I haven't had a lick of problems with Garmin Express so far. I think it actually works more quickly than MapUpdater ever did on my system.

The only thing I don't care for is that Garmin Express configures itself in StartUp so that it runs at all times that your computer is on. That may be fine for many people (it checks for updates) but I don't need that since I can read all about updates here on POI-Factory, and go get them myself. So I go to MSCONFIG and uncheck Garmin Express in the StartUp tab.

If I can remember, I'll try MapUpdater again next time and check its speed again. But for now, G.E. has been performing fine for me. Thought I'd throw that out there since everyone seems to be so down on it.

I've used both...

I've used both and don't have an issue with either one. I like the MapUpdater more cause it's more simplistic but the express works just as fine.

Map Updater

Me too - Map Updater!

Garmin Express or Map Updater

GE has been a mess and very buggy for me. I've been using Map Updater for the last several map updates.

No problems using that at all.

Updater

I tried to use the map updater(Express) on one of my old Quest2 gps for the motorcycle, and it sure made a mess out of it, had to redo the whole thing and use the map loader instead.
