navigon app?'s

I'm thinking of getting the navigon app for an Android and want to know a few things. I've had several Nuvis, but. So if anyone has the app feel free to jump in!

Does it show you the current street (Garmins do not)?

What does it use for traffic?

How well do contacts work to plot a route?

Can you start a route using zip codes, Garmins do not, you must change the state and then hit zip codes? 2nd part, can you just navigate to a zip code?

Thanks

Try Waze - it is

Try Waze - it is free.

Personally, I have not tried Navigon.

I have waze, and it doesn't cut it.

But if anyone wants to answer any of my questions, I would appreciate it! I'm down to Tomtom or Navigon.

Navigon on the iPhone is about as close to an end-user experience to my Nuvi 765t that I've found with a phone app. The TomTom app on iPhone is more like a Nuvi 350.

Both Navigon and Street Pilot Onboard have crappy ratings for the IOS versions. How would you rate Navigon? You can read the reviews at the iTunes Website for the iPhone.

Crappy Ratings

The crappy ratings for the iOS versions in the AppStore are a result of IDIOTS who didn't like when Garmin moved to an in-app purchase for map updates to be more like the Lifetime Map Updates on the stand-alone devices.... in my use, Navigon is just as good as my Nuvi765t...

I'll Buy That.

Thanks for responding.

My main objection is going to be that after spending a not inconsequential amount for the GPS, they want you to spend another $150 for the HUD, that can't interface with that expensive GPS, and then another $50 for the tracking program that it will interface with.

Call me when it works with a Garmin GPS.

can I simply just enter a zip/street/number?

With Nuvis you must start with the correct state in order to plot a route by zipcode. Thats my concern,I travel between 5 states and have to select the state before every route. If anyone that uses Navigon could tell me if I have to go through all that several times a day, or can I simply just enter a zip/street/number?

I guess I can live without knowing the other answers, but this feature would sell me on Navigon!

Confused

It gets even more confusing if you need international maps

Waze

I agree. Waze is not like a regular GPS in my book. I hate the fact that it doesn't allow me to stay zoomed out. I like to set a zoom level and stay there. This app will allow you to zoom out and then after a bit, it automatically zooms back in to see all the icons. I also don't like the fact that there is any posted speed limit info but that may change down the road since Google has taken over this product.

Google owns it now... crowd-sourced data... it's like Wikipedia for maps... only as good as data it's being fed...

Navigon iPhone App

I've had the Navigon App for North America on my iPhone for a few years now and it works very well with turn by turn voice directions and street names.

The traffic option is so so, but I believe you can purchase and "inApp" upgrade for better traffic reports (I haven't done that).

Not sure about Navigating from the iPhone contact information, as I have not used this format.

Over all a good App, but a bit expensive...

Hope this helps...
