Custom sound help..........bad memory, mine

In about 2009 I built a poi of all the school crossings here in Lawrence Kansas. When I got within a certain distance of one of these crossings a custom voice would say "school crossing ahead"....The POI is on this site. At that time I had a Nuvi 660, now I have a Nuvi 2597 and I can't remember how I got poi to use the "school crossing ahead" sound to work.

I have: POI loader
schools.csv
school.wav

I transferred these to the Nuvi, but all I get is the "ding' sound alert and a top of the screen visual alert....What am I doing wrong?

Sorry for my poor memory.............

.

Did you install the SOX.EXE in the proper folder?

Assuming

Assuming you used POIloader to put the files on your Nuvi then the one thing it appears that is wrong is that the files have to be the same name:

Schools.csv and Schools.wav

not

Schools.csv and School.wav as shown in your post.

Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.

One more thing

MM is correct if you're using a PC (not a Mac) in that you have a 1-time need to download and install sox.exe to your computer for your nuvi 2597 (which wasn't needed for your nuvi 660 if an mp3 audio file was used back then).

t92 is also correct that if installed as described in your post, you have a spelling issue that will prevent the wav audio from being heard.

Get back to us with your results since I'm sure you want the 2597 to respond as your 660 does.

Here's one more thought regarding the POI file you created and maintain here at The Factory:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20326

Your POI file as downloaded from the site contains a numeral "8" in the file name and this will create problems for users. It'd be best if you change the file name offered at The Factory to something without a numeral: either drop the 8 entirely, or if you want it, change it to "eight."

The missing piece, maybe?

This is probably what you're looking for. It's the AT&T site that allows you to record your own personal message. I use it all the time.

It's SOX like MM said. He went from a unit having MP3 capability to one that doesn't and that means SOX needs to be plugged into the loader.

Apparently the POI is working so the naming of files is correct, It looks like you made a typo in your post, school.wav versus schools.csv. The files must be named Exactly the same.
Your issue is the sound alert. When you created the POI on your 660 you used a MP3 file, this won't work on your 2597 since it's not capable of playing MP3 sounds.

As previously stated you must have the sox.exe file in your POI folder to work. Get it here, unzip it and copy it to your POI folder (only the sox.exe file).
http://www.poi-factory.com/images/csv/sox-14-0-1.zip

Using POILoader with sox.exe installed, will need a .wav file to work on your 2597. You can use a converter to convert your Mp3 file to .wav, you cannot just change the extension from .MP3 to .wav.
An easier way is to follow member plunders suggestion and create your own sound at the link he provided. Once the sound is available and both the ,csv and .wav files named EXACTLY the same, use POI loader to create a new POI file. Use manual mode and set the distance you want to hear the sound play. Please note this file will work on both your 2597 and your 660.

Used that in the past... Good site

You wrote elsewhere

Elsewhere, you updated your report with, in part:

I transferred these to the Nuvi, but it goes off at the first school crossing I come to but not the others it also seems not to see the first one until I go into settings and save what is already there correctly enabled every time I get in the car??????....What am I doing wrong?

Well, it's good to read that you are getting some alerts with your custom wav audio file as this eliminates a lot of issues for us.

I don't understand your "it also seems not to see the first one until I go into settings and save what is already there correctly enabled every time I get in the car" so can you offer more about this? For me, I've never needed to go into my nuvis' settings to save my Custom POIs and I don't know how I'd even find a Save button in my nuvis for my Custom POIs. What Setting are you going to in your nuvi to re-enable your Custom POIs each time you turn on the nuvi?

Can we assume you're using this POI file of yours:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20326

If so, have you renamed the POI csv file downloaded from The Factory to a name without the numeral "8" on your computer before running POI Loader to load them to your nuvi?

If you're using your file, above, are the POI locations you created set directly on the roadway at the School Crossing or are they set back from the roadway as might occur if your POI locations were set to the school building, playground, parking let, etc?

Are you using POI Loader in manual mode? What alert distance have you set?

We can figure this out more easily if we get some answers to the questions we've asked in this thread and confirm that you've made the additions or changes we've suggested.
