Easy

if they are truly Custom POI files that show up in Extras folder on the GPS - just load some new POI files onto the GPS with Garmins POI Loader application and the old files should be automatically deleted !

MrKenFL- "Money can't buy you happiness .. But it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." NUVI 260, Nuvi 1490LMT & Nuvi 2595LMT all with 2014.4 maps !

Two ways

I suggest either of two options and both need the nuvi to be connected to a computer:

First, view the connected nuvi with your computer's file browser, looking in the POI folder. The old Custom POIs will be there in one or more files with a .gpi extension. (It may be wise for you to tell us the filenames before you delete them--and as always, it's wise to have a full nuvi backup made to a hard drive or recordable DVD). Delete the offending .gpi file(s).

Second, run the POI Loader program and you will be given the option to remove all previously loaded Custom POIs.

Let us know what you decide and how it's working.

I worry that you say that you purchased a new nuvi and found Custom POIs installed. That's odd and the only example I can think of for this occurring is the free trial of the Safety Cameras (Cyclops file) POI. But if these preloaded POIs' locations are overseas, they really aren't doing any harm other than taking up some space on your nuvi's storage and appearing as a Custom POI under Extras.

Like Craig, we need some more information from you.

First, though, we think you should make a backup of your new nuvi so that you are protected. If you need a refresher, then see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394

Once a backup is done, you will be in a position to give the information that Craig has indicated will be helpful.

We will be interested in your report.

Just to confirm

Can you confirm that these are Custom POIs found by going to Whereto/Extras/CustomPOIs with your nuvi and that these are not Favorites or RecentlyFounds?

Location of Custom POIs on 2555

To find Custom POIs on NUVI 2555, touch Where To and on the Right Side of the new screen you will see Categories, Saved and Recent.

Touch Categories and then go to the Down Arrow on the Left side and keep touching the Down Arrow, until you see Custom POIs. Should be about 3 tries to get there.

Then touch Custom POIs.

I do not understand why custom POIs should be loaded on a new unit. Are you sure it was new?

After that you should be able to confirm that they were Custom and if so, do as suggested by CraigW

Sounds like

I asked my Directv installer if that was a brand new HDDVR. Just as he said that it was, the guide came up with the Los Angeles locals. We both had a good laugh.

Will Affect Warranty

as far as I know Garmin Warranty clock starts ticking as soon as the unit connects to the satellites, regardless of when it was registered.

Hopefully, this didn't happen too long before you bought.
