GTM Traffic Software Ver 2.9

I checked webupdater recently and under the update info for the GTM software, it had the following:

"Changes from version 2.80 to version 2.90: Fixed lockup that could result in grey traffic icon being displayed on PND"

I couldn't figure what PND was, but I now realize that it was possibly "Personal Navigation Device".

Does anyone know when version 2.9 was first brought out? Ver 3.1 has since come out, but I am curious of the history.

Is it possible that this is the source of the "Always Green Icon"?

.

What GTM model and what nuvi model?

My GTM 60/nuvi 3490LMT does not have this GTM update listed.

Traffic

I have officially given up on the hope that Garmin will ever fix either the "always green traffic icon" fault or the "quiet-talker" bluetooth volume issue on my 2595. Extremely disappointing to me, especially since the traffic icon works correctly on other models, and the same holds true for the bluetooth volume: It's fine with my phone on other Nuvi's.

I have also pretty much given up. I don't seem to be getting replies to my latest question about the Always Green. I was asked to send a screen shot of my "About" screen and did so and have not received a reply as to why, there was no listing for any version of the GTM software.

I have been very patient so far.

I have one last approach, if I continue to get no action on this, but I will wait a bit more.

Ver 3.1 is the current version, but in when it lists the bug fixes, it lists ver 2.8 to 2.9 "Fixed lockup that could result in grey traffic icon".

This sounds like the start of Always Green unless I'm misreading. You had previously thought that change was over a year ago. That's why I'm trying to get an idea of the release date.

Problems Letters

Let's all keep sending letters, not emails, to Garmin's President complaining about your various technical issues which are not being resolved. I do this every week and even though I get the usual 'blow off' emailed response from one of his lackeys, I will keep doing it until I get my Samsung S4 and then one final letter telling him respectfully what he can do with his PNDs. One interesting note, a friend told me he shot a hole in one of his non functioning, older units and mailed it in to express his frustration with their lack of action on a partic problem; hadnt gotten a reply yet!

Dead Air from tech support

I still bug them periodically, but am just getting the canned responses of late. FWIW, I don't think this (green traffic icon) is related to the GTM firmware. I think it is a bug introduced with one of the firmware upgrades. You'd think they would just go down a line of Nuvi's with each version until they found the one that works correctly and then go look for the the bug. It's an important function and signal that was lost, not some trivial fluff like the blurry trip computer screen that was fixed in ONE firmware release.

Here is the link to get info on the VPs of each division.

http://www.garmin.com/en-US/company/leadership/executives/

My next step was also going to be to "write" (on paper) to one of the VPs.

Michael Wiegers is listed as the VP of Engineering. As always, especially for people in this level, everyone should remember to be polite, be concise, never get personal, and provide any documentation, such as copies of emails, and possible links to some of the POI Factory Threads.

Clarification: "Green Traffic Icon" issue

I should clarify my previous statement re: why I believe the issue is related the the GPS firmware and not the GTM.

The reason I say this is because I have seen this same problem with both a GTM 25 and a GTM 35. I do not have a GTM 60. Now, Garmin -may- have released new GTM firmware thinking this is where the problem is located, but I started seeing it after a unit FW update and before the more recent GTM updates.

Confused yet?? shock

I understand that Garmin engineering has special places set up in their test facilities that are shielded from outside signals. If that's the case, they could line up Nuvi's loaded with FW V6.x to current and plug in the traffic receiver(s). Nuvi with V6.x: "Gray Icon" .... Nuvi with V7.x: "Green Icon" Hmmmmmmmmmm. If they don't have a shielded room, they can borrow my old relic Volvo 240 for testing. I swear the thing is lead lined. It blocks just about everything unless the Nuvi is right up against the glass and the power cord is hanging out the window. (Well, uh maybe a little exaggeration here, but not much!) rolleyes
