Can 3790 Voice Command find near destination city?

I have the Nuvi 3790, which I generally like quite a bit. I like the voice command feature, because it seems like every time I look at my GPS I almost hit something.

It works fine for dictating a destination address. But, I almost never use "Find by Name", because it searches based on my current location. For example, if I say "Eagle Ridge Golf Course", which is about 45 minutes away, it finds many false matches locally - to the point that I cannot ever get to the desired match.

What I am wondering is, can I tell it "Find Eagle Ridge Golf Course near Gilroy California"?

If not with the 3790, then do any of the newer models support something like that?

Thanks for any input..

The new

The new 3597 seems to operate much the same as the 3790 and could only do what you want with a combination of voice commands and screen taps, unless, of course, you save Eagle Ridge Golf Course as a Favorite. Then you could probably use Voice Command - Favorites - Eagle Ridge and the Nuvi would list the golf course near the top of the list, unless you have a butch of Favorites that contain the words Eagle and Ridge. smile

Voice Command Behavior

My 2460's voice command will not do what you suggest. I know you said "probably", and I'd be surprised if the 3790 and 3597 would be able to accomplish this using voice commands for favorites.
This was one of my biggest disappointments with the Voice Command feature.

If you activate voice command for favorites on the 2460, there are three lines available to view that are closest to your location. I believe on the 3790 & 3597 there are four lines.

I have 28 favorites on my 2460, when I use the voice command to activate favorites it asks to give a line number, lines 1 to 3 appear first, Saying the line or name will activate the route. Now the problem lies if I want to go to favorites further down the list, if I say the name it doesn't work, I have to give the down command until I reach the page where the favorite is listed. If I want to go to my 28th entry, I have to use the down command 10 times. Not very practical to use having these restrictions.

If new member Tji entered Eagle Ridge Golf Course as a favorite, and it's location brings it several pages down from the first page, I don't believe by speaking the name will let it activate the route.
Maybe somebody with either of those two Nuvi models can confirm this.

Gosh, tell us about this.

I have the nuvi 2597 and

I have the nuvi 2597 and while setting here have tried several places for voice commands using save places to search. Voice command ,saved places and name of place. Found most without being on a list. Some in another state. The trick is to speak the name exactly as typed.

Doesn't Work For Me

Seems like on the 2597 the changed the category from "Favorites" to "Saved Places".

On the 2460, one of my favorites has name of "peter". I speake peter and it does not work. I've even tried changing the name to "pete", that too did not work. Peter is in a different stat and appears near the end of my list.

Could be the newer Nuvi's have better firmware than the 2460 to recognize voice commands better.

I thought we were talking about Favorites(Saved Places). My 2460 does not have an address book.
I don't use Bluetooth, is an address book created using Bluetooth?

I'm glad the feature works for you, I really would like that.

Talking about the same

Talking about the same thing. 2597 has saved places. I have a category called address book I made in my saved places. All my saved places are assigned a category.

Well, since I have both the 3790 and the 3597 I can tell you that it does work as I described on the 3597. You simply ask for Saved Places and speak the name of the place you want on the "Speak a Saved Places" sreen (or your given the option to tap the screen and see a list of your favorites/saved places). As charlesd45 mentioned, you seem to have to speak the Favorite name exactly as it's saved on the device for this to work. Once the 3597 has found the Saved Place/Favorite, you simply speak Navigate and the route is calculated.

I said "probably" because at the time of my post I did not have access to my 3790. I do now, and find that you don't have the "Speak a Favorites/Saved Places" option on it like you do on the 3597. The 3790 works much the same as you describe with the exception that you get 4 Favorites listed on a given screen instead of 3 and in portrait mode you get 6.

@t923347

Thanks for the information and confimation.
Appears they have made changes to the 3597 with a more advanced search feature, a very deirable improvement.
