Nuvi 2595 GPX Loading Problem

Hello, I am a newbie to this forum and have a problem that I need help with. I have created a collection in Basecamp that I loaded onto my 2595 and now it just hangs when powering on and loading the North American Map. I fear that I hade too much content in the collection as I had brought all of the KOA and Good Sam RV Sites as well as the generic US & Canada campgrounds into Basecamp. It appears that all of that was saved into my first Collection as I was not sure of what I was doing or what the results would be.

Does anyone know how to delete or back out the Collections upload?

Any help via this forum would be greatly appreciated as we need to leave on the trip in less than 2 weeks and I need the GPS to be working correctly by then.

Thanks in advance,
RGB

Welcome

Welcome to the site.

There is a Getting Started button in the upper right of this page right under POI Files. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Getting Started" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Beginner Education FAQs.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

If you do not already have your 2595 in Mass Storage mode, you should do that right now although if it hangs we may have to do something else first. I would try holding down the on/off button for 15 seconds or so. I had my daughters new unit hang up in the mode that it goes into when it thinks it is connected to a computer - except that what I had done was to connect the USB cable to a wall charging unit. I could not get it to turn off even after disconnecting the unit from the USB cable. Holding down the on/off key finally made it turn off. And, then it came back on with the next push.

I went through that commentary to say that to get the unit into Mass Storage mode (it comes in MTP mode) requires that you:
1 Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and hookup to Computer USB cable
7. The computer should recognize it is hooked up to the computer.
8. Explorer will now see all files in ROOT directory and the .System directories.

Try the above and report back.

When you used Bascamp.Did you saved the final file on your computer and use Garmin Poiloader to install to GPS?

First of all. thank you for

First of all. thank you for answering my post. After backing up the device I changed it to Mass Storage Mode and went looking for all files updated within the last 2 days to see what Basecamp had loaded onto the GPS.

To answer your question about using Garmin POIloader, I have not. examining the file structure on the GPS has also shown that no large files were saved to the unit and that my newly created routes did not get transferred either, so I appear to be a square one.

Also I was able to boot the device, which I thought was hanging by leaving it on and just waiting, it finally finished booting and now loads in the same short time that it always has.

SO now I am back to my original task of getting my new routes and waypoints loaded into the unit.

Any further advice?

Randy

You may want to look at these video instructions http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/training/basecamp/#PC

Basecamp takes some getting use to it.Starting out I would use MapQuest to do routes http://websearch.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=websea... also https://support.mapquest.com/entries/23118987-How-to-Get-Dir...

On your first post it sounds like you may want to do a custom poi file for all the different locations you mention see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721
