screen calibration problems

I have the Garmin Nuvi 465LMT. i bought it in October of 2011. When i go to type in an address the number below what i touch is entered, it is if the whole screen has moved downward.

The things Ive tried to calibrate the screen and failed:

Hold the power button to the left for 30-45 seconds until calibration screen pops up.

Hold the top left side of screen while turning on the device.

Master reset

When i called the Garmin tech support line they said my warranty is up and they would charge to fix it.

I thought about taking out the battery then putting it back in but im having trouble finding the proper tool to open it. Would that help? What is the size and make of the tool to do so?

I am running out of options so am willing to try anything at this point because i am left with a very expensive paperweight.

Any advice would help
thanks!

Some thoughts

Here's a link to opening the 465LMT case:

I expect the tool is a standard torx driver, probably a #5. To avoid damage, use only a stiff plastic prybar rather than any metal blade.

I'm not sure that a battery dis/re-connect will cure your issue, though. I gather that you successfully found and used the screen calibration but that it doesn't cure your problem. You may want to try it a few more times--possibly even trying to intentionally miscalibrate the screen to see what happens.

I wonder what would happen if you went to your nuvi settings and chose a different keyboard (assuming you have options), then return to the desired keyboard.

Good luck.

Calibration?

I'm not positive that you were able to calibrate according to your post. Did the calibration fail once calibrated, or you were unable to get the calibration screen to appear?.
The method you described to enter calibration screen is correct according to the manual.

If you can enter the calibration screen perhaps try a stylus to touch the dots or something pointy with a soft tip. This may give you more accuracy.

Also please advise if it's just entering the address with the Keyboard that is giving you problems, or does it not react properly to other touchscreen functions. If all other commands behave normally we can probably rule out a bad touchscreen.

I agree with CraigW, I think it's a calibration issue, or perhaps worse, a failing touchscreen.
I don't think a battery removal will help.
First gives CraigW's suggestion of changing the keyboard layout a shot. if using Qwerty change to ABCDE, if using ABCDE, change to Qwerty. Your 465LMT does have those choices.

If you have thick fingers (like me) maybe have a lady friend try to enter an address and see if that's more precise.

No Calibration Screen?

Thanks for advising you were not able to get to the calibration screen. That certainly would be the starting point to troubleshoot your issue.

As per Garmin manual and you have tried unsuccessfully:
"slide and hold the power key to the left for 30 seconds".

My thinking is it could be the power switch contacts may not be holding contact for the 30 second duration. What you can try is:

Make sure your battery is fully charged.
When sliding to the left, put a slight downward pressure on the slider switch and hold it for the 30 seconds. Hopefully the screen will appear.

Please post back so others may learn from your experience.
