MapSource?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but if so I can not find it.

I have Mapsource and Basecamp on my computer. Mapsource shows me as the latest 2013.1 as does Basecamp.

I have along the way updated from 2013.1 to 2013.2, 2013.3 and last night updated to 2013.4 on both my GPS's.

When I updated using Garmin Express there was no option to install on both the GPS and the computer, in fact there were NO options.

2013.4 does not show in either Mapsource or Basecamp, only 2013.1 does. I believe Garmin has done something so Mapsource does not receive any updates anymore. But why does Basecamp not show the 2013.4 file?

Is there some finaggling that can be done to be able to see the 2013.4 map in either program.

As an aside it took me 3 hours to update the 3790 and then it took less than 1 hour to do the 855, which almost leads me to think there is/was an install on the computer to facilitate the faster update to the 855.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you

Garmin Express will install

Garmin Express will install only to the GPS. The maps are suppose to show on Basecamp when you connect the GPS to the computer.I made the same mistake using Garmin Express. Went back with Map Updater and selected to install maps to just the computer. Now maps show on Mapsource and Basecamp.

Correct

Correct. A major failing of the current Garmin Express, at least thought by several of us here at The Factory, is the lack of an "install to computer" option when updating maps.

I'm not a user of BaseCamp yet, but it may be that if you have your nuvi with 2013.40 connected to your computer via USB and then open BaseCamp, that BaseCamp will now see and be able to use the current map. Other BaseCamp pros may need to weigh in here.

It is possible that the current map update's installation files still reside in your computer but that will again require someone else to answer.

That is indeed the case... and it takes time for that map read to occur from the GPS to BaseCamp - annoying to say the least.

Thanks for the exta info.

USB3, where are you when we need you?

Thank you

I want to thank you for your info and will see what will happen next.

.

I use the Garmin Lifetime updater to install to both the device and the computer - the new maps show up in both Basecamp and Mapsource.

Strange. I used Garmin Express to install to my computer only.
There was a screen asking for Device, clicking it gave me the usual options of device, computer, or both.

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

MapUpdater

I used the MapUpdater and did the options in the right bottom corner to put on device and computer and it put the maps on my unit and in Mapsource.
