Computer crash

I,ve been MIA for way over a week. My Computer crashed and I had to wait for a motherboad shipment. Got up and running but It,s not running right yet.Defect on the board. Waiting to get another Motherboard to replace this one. The machine keeps shuting down on its own. God I miss being on the net and this web site. Hope to get it resolved soon

You have been missed

We have missed you too, it is good to have you back.
Miss Poi

Sounds like the power supply

Sounds like a power supply issue to me.....
You may want to replace that and see if that's
the culprit.

Hope you get the PC up and running, I couldn't
live without mine......

I agree with the power supply.

Had this problem a couple years ago on a Gateway PC and figured it was the power supply. Replaced it and it still runs to this day.

Thanks for the info guys. I

Thanks for the info guys. I thought the same thing so I replaced the power supply with a corsair 600 watts unit. It didn,t help. I can only stay online for about 30 min.before it shuts down. It seems to be Heat related. New board should arrive tomorrow Wednesday. I hope to be back to normal by Thursday. Again Thanks guys and Miss POI for all your help. Let me post this before it shuts down.

I had one of those very

I had one of those very expensive, top of the line, "waste your money on me" mobo's that had a defective chipset fan and it did the same thing. Would overheat and shut down. Try taking all the panels that you can off your puter and let it get some air...

I think your right Robinh. I

I think your right Robinh. I took both side panels off and it is running a lot longer then it did. It would only run about one half hour, now its running almost two hours before shuting down. Well I ordered a different Motherboard from a different company and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow via UPS from Calf. Here,s hoping.

This may sound dumb but if

This may sound dumb but if your processor heatsink is clogged with dust it will overheat..

I'll agree with raybonz on

I'll agree with raybonz on this as well.
Having dust in your heatsink will cause
overheating.

Also, Most heatsinks come with a thermal pad.
I would scrape that off the bottom and put
some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste onto the processor
die. Of course you will have to clean the processor
1st before you add the paste.

This will make it run a lot cooler....
Maybe 10 degree's

PS: If you would like to see how hot it's running
run Mother Board Monitor. It's free and will
show the temps of both inside your case and your
processor. I use it and it works great

Its supposed to be a new

Its supposed to be a new motherboard and cpu chip with a new heatsink and fan. I don,t know if its possible to get a bad heatsink but you never know. I think it,s either a bad chipset or bad bios chip or both. Thanks for your insight and response Ray Oh yeah I didn,t forget the Past. My son told me you have to use CPU Paste on all the new CPUs.

typical issue

I work on computers and if it runs and then turns off it is usually not power. When your computer starts up it starts up at full speed to check for proper voltage. His problem is prob a heat problem. I have the same. Typically a hard restart or shutdown means something hit its threshold (usually the cpu or the graphics card) and the mobo (motherboard) is set to shutoff if something reaches a certain temp so it did just that. Sometimes you need to upgrade your bios because some parts might give the mobo info on temp and the mobo misinterprets it and thinks it is higher than what it really is. Use a normal meat thermometer or something of the like to see what the box temp reaches. Also try and keep wires out of the way of pieces and uncluttered. If you have wires running everywhere the heat stays clustered.

Also i heard you say that you got a 600watt psu...not sure what hardware you have but that is overkill and just make sure that you don't overkill because the difference in your energy bill yearly between having a 600 watt and 400 can be around 200-400 depending on prices. That is big. Keep us posted and hope your computer survives the mess.

Well it,s great to be back.

Well it,s great to be back. After two motherboads, a new power supply and a new CPU its running like a swiss watch. Your not going to believe this, but it was a defective CPU. I thought a CPU either worked or did not work. One of my sons who is a IT admin said that the CPU had two caches on it L1 an L2 an that one of them was shot. Anyway it,s great to be back
