3790QWERTY

I thought it was possible to put the keyboard on the 3790 into QWERTY layout but I am not given this option. Anyone know anything about this?

2450

My 2450 is QWERTY. I looked and I can't find anywhere to change mine.

tools>settings>language>keyboard layout

I have a 3790 and the qwerty setting is selected under the menu as follows:

tools>settings>language>keyboard layout

QWERTY is by default but you have option to switch to ABC if you want to.

No choice

That's what I thought but my only choice is abc. No other choice.

Try this: go Where To/address/spell town and hit the little circle above the Done button. This will put you into the Keyboard Language screen. Do you have American English in there and is it highlighted?

Yes

There is nothing else related to keyboards. It's a long shot. The file might be corrupted. If you have a complete back up then delete en_US.kbd and copy from back up. One other thing you can do is go through your 3790 and see if you find a directory that is missing english like in the Text Directory glx files. Or just reload it from a prior version and see what that gives you.

English ok

But no choices for another language or for a different keyboard. I can live with it but I wonder what's missing. I do have a backup but I am not sure i want to mess something else up.

How you gonna mess something up? If it's a "COMPLETE" back-up, you can't mess it up. On the safe side back it up now. Then just overwrite the unit with your last back-up. I have 5 complete back-ups here for my 3790, right back to 2010.40. Every file is in there including favorites except my poi's. No way to mess it up. rolleyes

QERTY

Why not just use "WEB UPDATER" to update and /or re-install the English files???

Cause it won't update what it already see's in the first place. Web updater also doesn't do keyboard files, neither does express. I have deleted everything but 2 languages on my units and never has updater or express given me a choice of keyboard files. I've never quite figured out what reinstall same version does, used it once but it didn't reinstall everything.
I had deleted almost everything just to try it out. Again question becomes will it overwrite or skip what it see's? How about restore to original condition and then use updater?
