bean bag mount

I've been having problem with the gps mount coming loose from the bean bag mount I have been using for a few years. I have a Garmin Nuive 1495. I think part of the problem is the power cord connects at and angle so the cord is forced down towards the mount. I am using the mount that came with the GPS, and forget which bean bag. Anyone have a recommendation for a better mount or bean bag? Or something to help keep the suction cup in place? I've done the obvious of cleaning both the suction cup and the bean bag.

Sounds as if it's not the garmin mount

It sounds as if you have a Nav-mat and not the Garmin model because you state you use the mount that came with the unit. If the mount uses the suction cup arm, then the suction cups do wear. The original Garmin "Bean-Bag" comes with a Goose-neck that connects to the cradle or holder for the unit rather than attaching by suction cup.

bean bag mount

I'm not sure which mount you have. But if the issue is that the "cradle" that holds the GPS unit comes loose from the ball joint, you might try lining the female part of the joint with Saran Wrap or something similar. That should take up the slack.

My only complaint about my bean bag mount is that the bottom face seems to have lost its tackiness over the years. I solve that by putting one of those tacky pads (typically used to keep cell phones and iPods in place) between the bottom of the bean bag and the dashboard.

Original Garmin for me

I have been using the original Garmin bean bag mount for a couple of years now and I find it very useful
As boxcar says the neck on this one is a permanent fixture and the bean bags rubber base and weight make it really stable.

Great if you have to use your unit in multiple vehicles

Both the beanbag and this one are excellent mounts.

never liked bean bag

I tried bean bag in past, but it was sliding left and right through my dashboard during city driving and utterly pissing me off LOL! sold it on ebay.

been using windshield suction cups since then, been very good to me solid, no problems ever ...

The stem came loose from the bag. I will try & fix it.
